It isn't the 4th yet.....

I was there too...took my brothers....a very fun day!! As I recall, my ticket was around $15 and coolers were allowed in the stadium....how things have changed.

Are there any photos from this gig?
I don't think I've seen one, that and Boulder 1978.

Sure about this?! Weird no bootlegs in this quality were ever released then of this gig....

My first Stones show also. Went with my older brother. Great memories: Jagger and Wood all in red, frisbees everywhere, 80,000 packed into Rich Stadium on a hot and sunny day, etc.

Happy anniversary. My 30th is coming July 13.

My first Stones show as well. I was disappointed with all the Some Girls material at the time.

Did anyone see the Greatful Dead in Buffalo on July 4th 1989?

I was there as well..it was over sooo fast! A short, fast, very energetic, in-your-face show. It seems that almost all of Some Girls was played, which was great. Opener was Let It Rock, if I remember correctly. Great stage with the band inside the tongue and lips. I remember walking into the stadium and seeing that....blew me away!.

You sure about this? There were several shows recorded for radio broadcast on this tour, but I didn't think Buffalo was broadcast.

Well I know Journey and Atlanta Rhythm had good careers. Did April Wine ever go any place.

April Wine remained as they were in Canada. I'm pretty sure they are still around playing here and there.

As for the Grateful Dead in Buffalo in 1989 I missed that but I was at the show in 1986 (?) on the 4th of July that was the Grateful Dead,Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Bob Dylan.

April Wine was a Canadian band that had a few hits in the 70's, and they were the opening act at the El Mocambo. They were the headlining band that was supposed to appear, and then the Stones came on after as a surprise. The hits dried up in the 80's and they faded away after that. They still do the smaller venue circuit. Not my kind of music - too pop oriented - but a lot of people liked them, particularly in Canada.

This was my first Stones show as well and I have always wanted a boot of the show .We drove all night to get there and it was blazing hot that day. They had a huge Stones tongue as a backdrop for the stage. Very plain considering what they do now. 80,000 that day, at least . I didn’t even care about the other bands. I was very into Some Girls and was happy to listen to each new tune. If anyone knows of a recording out there ,please give us some info ............

My first Stones show, too. I picked the date 7/4/78 as my user name on here.

Very fast show, with really crappy sound. There are some boots of it. Everyone I have heard is pretty much as the gig was...bad sound.

I remember the show for them cranking thru Some Girls (which I loved, but most of the other 80,000 or so people had no clue about).

My only disappointments were the very short set by the Stones (maybe trying to be 'punk'?) and the fact that all 3 opening bands sounded way better, though had a pretty mellow vibe all day, compared to the Stones energy.

Afterward, I thought: is this really supposed to be the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world? Thankfully, they redeemed themselves in 1981 when I saw them live, and in the great recording of the Detroit show from 1978, just 2 days after Buffalo, in a Masonic hall.
