OT: 20 Yr Old Vogue Cover Fashion Model dies in a NYC Apt Suicide Dive

(not so OT since half the Stones are/were married to big time models)

I found this quite sad especially cause I "dabble"(go in and out) of Fashion Photography and I know how stressed out AND freaked out these young girls/models really are - it's not as easy as it looks and you must have VERY THICK skin or you're in for some very difficult and emotionally down times.

The AP is reporting that her name was Ruslana Korshunova, 20, and commited suicide by falling to her death on Water St. in Manhattan's Financil District (close to where the WTC stood and to the trendy neighborhood of TRIBECA).

Originally from the former Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan, the almond eyed, flowing haired beauty appeared in avertisements and on runways for such designers as Marc Jacobs, Nina Ricci, and DKNY. British Vogue hailed her as "a face to be excited about" in 2005. From a Photographer's POV (as I found a Youtube tribute) she had a stunning face, any FP would be happy to shoot her - looked like an angel. How tragic, some people just aren't strong enough to deal with all the bullsh*t - it's just a BRUTAL BUSINESS. This Tribute is beautifully done -

RIP RUSLANA KORSHUNOVA

I LIKE THIS MORE FOR THE PHOTO'S
(but the first one has better music)

I had a distant cousin do the same thing a long time ago.
I think she was trying to make it on Broadway and just couldn't handle it.

Yeah, if you make it, make it to the level were you have some power and control, it's great... if you're always struggling (as MOST are) it's a bitch... people just see the Cindy Crawfords, Paulina's, and Kate Moss's - not the other 98%.... Sorry about you cousin EG, what a horrible way to go.... always a tragic situation...

She has very sad eyes. I think she must have been very depressed todo such a thing. Depression will kill you. you can't see your way out even though there are many ways out and the thing is some medicine could have made it easier for her to see her way through to a different lifestyle.

She does have sad eyes... damn shame, just horrible jumping out of a window... these agencies need to pay more attention to the model's mental health, a lot of the agencies are just cold users too busy to care.....

No one cares... where's Cindy C? She'll care, she's into fashion... I think this is a super sad story...

Hi Helter -

I saw this - it is very sad. I guess I just didn't have anything new to add about it. She does have a sadness about her that comes through even when she smiles. Perhaps that's what the photographer was going for though?

I dunno - you want to blame the fashion agencies - I want to blame her parents a little bit too. Someone wasn't watching out for her. She WAS old enough to be on her own though, but just barely, when exactly should they cut the cord, you never know.

Maybe no one is to blame. Obviously it's a brutal business, but to kill yourself over it??? I don't think a completely sane person would have chosen the option she did, they would choose to simply follow a different career path. Yeah it sucks to REALLY work and get paid a million times less than what she was probably making, and once you get a taste of that lifestyle, it would be unbelievably hard to go back, but even that's better than no life at all. All us other suckers have to do it, sometimes beautiful people feel they deserve more. I'm tired right now, I'll probably have more sympathy tomorrow, but my general reaction to suicide is never as sympatheic as it probably should be, I just tend to feel more anger at their stupidity for throwing it all away. Once you're gone, you're gone, that's it.

Its sad that she felt that she had no other options though, unfortunately, she was wrong.

Not sure why this suicide is more worthy of attention or sympathy than
any other suicide. Is it because she happens to be attractive?
Everyone has their own story...their own friends...their own family...and
their own troubles.

Helter...why should we care more for a fashion model than for the
other suicides that occurred yesterday?

I think I'm more with CindyC on this one.

I have 3 opinions about people that actually commit suicide.
1) Their sanity might be in question...or
2) They want to make a dramatic statement...but don't fully
comprehend that dead is DEAD! ...or
3) They are living in complete & utter despair....and truly feel that
NO LIFE is better than a COMPLETELY miserable one. Hopeless.

...maybe she was drugged up and thought she could fly....??

I have sympathy....but I don't care if she was a model.
She had something...but she threw it away.
