There's also an unreleased duet version of "My Blue Eyed Jane" w/Emmylou Harris.

Can somebody be so kind as to explain me what are the highlights of the Dylan & the Dead material not yet released?

They played a few really good to great shows together, but - typically - Dylan decided to release the worst versions from the worst shows. He was in a pretty contrary/couldn't give a toss mood in the mid-80s.

Wouldnt say any of the shows were 'great' (interesting, certainly - and it set the template for the random setlists that would be the norm at future Dylan tours) but the live album that the Dead assembled out of the shows was much superior to the one that Dylan eventually released.

What was the album that the Dead prepared?

They were great compared to the Dylan & The Dead album. Which is what I meant. But did not say. Intent is everything, right, Gazza? grinning smiley

And the unreleased live album from the tour is infinitely superior.

Personally, besides all the great album outtakes we're bound to get, I really want to hear a lot more of the songs he cut for Masked & Anonymous.

I second that. I sat through that movie when it was on TV, and it wasn't easy.

Maybe they include some material from the sessions that Bob reportedly recorded in the early stages of Time Out Of Mind with Ian McLagan and Ron Wood of Faces in Ireland? I'd prefer that over a "Sheryl" version of Mississippi, because the song is just fine the way it is now. A compilation of his movie songs would be nice, too.
I just hope there is lots of material from the "Masked And Anonymous" band, because that was a great band.

Since you guys know a lot about Dylan, I have a question for you. I have a limited amount of his music. Some of it I really love, some of it I don't.

My fav's:
Planet waves, Desire, Street legal, Live 75. I also love Blood on the tracks, the live '66 album and the 1st live album of the Rolling Thunder tour.

My Dylan albums I don't really enjoy: Good as I've been to you, Self Portrait, New Morning, Before the flood, MTV unplugged. And despite the critical acclaim I don't like Modern Times, and even (don't crucify me...) Time out of mind.

So knowing my taste for Dylan please help me out: which other Dylan albums would you advise me to try out?

Thanx for your help.

Highway 61 Revisted, Blonde on Blonde, Bringing it All Back Home should float your boat. You might also want to try Oh Mercy, if you like Street Legal.

Now, I don't want to start a new thread for every news that come in, but I have two things on my mind, so I'll post them here:

1) Has anyone ever seen this one?

Bob kissing

Seems to me most incredible, I mean this is Bob Dylan who most of the time doesn't even look in the direction of his audience! Don't they have any security there?
I've never seen something like that (especially not with Dylan)!

2) On the official website www.bobdylan.com you can now get access to an unreleased song from the upcoming Bootleg Series 8 "Tell Tale Signs" if you sign up on bobdylan.com. Has anyone already done it? Looks like it doesn't cost anything to me, but I don't want to get spammed also.
Well, I can't resist, I will register right now ;-)

Have Fun!

Edit:

I don't think this has been posted yet, but the website also provides the tracklist of the Bootleg Series 8 now: Click

Surprised at the omission of most of the 1992 Bromberg stuff. Still, what an incredible collection. Absolutely mouth watering.

Bit of an outrageous price hike for the deluxe edition, though, especially if, like me, youre much more interested in the bonus CD than a photo book.

impressively narrow chronological parameters for the selections, all Oh Mercy and later.

though once they start digging into the recent live stuff, you wonder why they stop... the folk standard live from 1992 reminds me of his versions of "Pretty Peggy O" from around then, which are amazing.

I'll probably get the vinyl, though the booklet sounds like a total waste, and hope to download the bonus CD somewhere.

Bob Dylan fans are in for a treat this fall, in the form of "Tell Tale Signs," a triple-disc rarities collection that will be the eighth volume in the artist's "Bootleg Series." The project arrives Oct. 7 via Columbia.

Dylan's Web site is featuring a free download of "Dreamin' of You," a Daniel Lanois-produced track from the sessions for the 1998 album "Time Out of Mind."

The track list goes heavy on the past 20 years of Dylan's career, including a number of unreleased songs and alternate versions stemming from sessions for "Time Out of Mind," "Modern Times," "Oh Mercy" and "World Gone Wrong."

A number of soundtrack contributions can be found here too, including "Huck's Tune" from "Lucky You," "'Cross the Green Mountain" from "Gods and Generals" and the Ralph Stanley collaboration "The Lonesome River" from "Clinch Mountain Country."

Live tracks from Bonnaroo 2004, London in 2000 and New York's intimate Supper Club in 1993 round out the package.

I am not yet convinced that there will not be an opportunity to buy the three disc version for less than a $110 premium over the two disc version. The only place this is advertised yet is Bob's site. Let's wait and see what shows up on Amazon and or iTunes.
