A honest speaker would say that They do not care any more. A self-centered one supposes their view and the world-view are one and the same, thus no one cares.

From Wikipedia

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Also from Wikipedia:

A sycophant is a servile person who, acting in his or her own self interest, attempts to win favor by flattering one or more influential persons, with an undertone that these actions are executed at the cost of his or her own personal pride, principles, and peer respect. Such a manner is called obsequiousness.

Because I work in the evening, I had no choice but to go to the matinee showing of SAL (on the day it opened),
by myself before work... at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I was as excited as the rest of the fans here in the months before
the movie came out. A week before the filmed opened to the public, I had tried go get into the press conference
in nyc, coming away with only a booklet... rats

I taped the stone & scorsese arriving at nyc's zeigfeld theater for the premiere...
(At first I thought my video looked like it was shot by a stalker or something! I posted it on Youtube anyway... http:
//www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKNI2hsEdus). And when I actually watched and listened to the film... although
I enjoyed it a lot... I was somewhat disappointed.
Something was missing... The Stones still looked and sound great, and I liked the "concreteness" of Marty's and
the Stones' film. The Rolling Stones, played very nicely with others... Buddy, Christina, Jack.

But something it felt like it was different about the Stones, their music and my feelings... I couldn't name it.
As I sat there in my Stones shirt, amidst a silent group that might have stepped right off the AARP bus for the matinee,
I "danced" in my seat...

Later that night, when I got out of work, I headed downtown to Walter's bar, where I read that the Shidoobees would
be hanging out after the movie. As I sat at the bar drinking a beer, I listened to one great Stones sonf after another
on the jukebox. It sounded SO great, and I knew what had been missing for me in the movie.

As great as the Stones still are live, they were much greater in their prime. I am lucky enough to know, to have seen
them in their prime. But it's their old music, on record, that still turns me on most. While the recorded Stones will go
on forever, the live -- the living -- Rolling Stones (like all of us) are nearing the ends of their careers and lives.

After all, it's only rock n roll.

The point is The Band is still writing GREAT songs (Half of ABB is brilliant) and making some great videos. For example, SAINT OF ME is a great Song AND one of the best videos EVER made. If you follow a band or individual for their "Art" (creativity) you really need to stick with them through all their different periods and styles - it's like being a fan of a painter, you go with it when they change.... The Stones are still vital, but they are different and have grown.... They're just not the Stones of the 1970's....

They are relevant just as long -- but only as long -- as they can still write and record good stuff.

If it's relevance to the world of music, then they'll be relevant long after they've popped their clogs. They have made a major contribution to our musical culture and indeed were pioneers in the early years. Many of their songs will stand the test of time because although rock n roll saw a giant leap forward and broadened musical horizons, much of today's music is still pretty closely related. The Stones will live on through their music, just as many other top performers do, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa etc If the music is good enough it will last forever, the tunes of my old mate Ludwig Van Beethoven are testimony to that, ah the glorious 9th!!>grinning smiley<smileys with beer

Shout, shout, knock yourself out
Come on, yell, yell, loud and swell
Come on scream, scream, you know what I mean
Put another coin in the record machine

Of course you're right...

I didn't quite mean it the way it came out... Maybe "relevant" isn't the right word. I certainly don't think that the Stones will ever be irrelevant

Wow, where is glimmtertwin81 when you need more stoopid shi*t on this board?

Could you (whoever) please make a list of who else is not relevant now and give me a reason? Because I'm sure anyone is right. Just as someone says they can't, they are right about that too.

I think it's all in the ear of the beholder. I don't see - The Rolling Stones are not a football team that suddenly starts to lose a lot of games and people stay away in droves (there are plenty of NFL teams I could list) until they get better. Or baseball teams or whatever. I don't think that's ever happened with them - no tour has ever been illy supported. The odd show here and there but not tours.

They are who they are, they do what they do, and I think as far as relevance goes with making new records, I don't think we've ever expected them to be relevant in the rap world, just the rock'n'roll world. Is anyone expecting anything different from AC/DC? No! So why bother? Why care? What is your version of relevance?

They did up to 5 songs or whatever from A Bigger Bang and hauled out some rarely if ever played tracks. The Beach Boys continue to play the same shitty songs they've been wiping their asses with for eons in the name of nostalgia - and people continue to go.

Just about 4 million less (or so) than The Rolling Stones. That's a lot of people. That's a big difference.

They are no more or are more relevant than anyone else releasing albums or touring because they are still writing great songs and shitty songs and are still touring and people, obviously, are loving them more and more each tour, shitty guitar notes and flat singing here and there included because the statistics don't lie - they keep touring and making more and more money. You can't buy that kind of relevance. That relevance speaks for itself - people love The Rolling Stones. What more relevance does one need?

Funny how that works for a band that's lost it and isn't relevant and so forth. It's astounding actually.

Get over yourself Lynn. The Stones sold 2.5 million copies of their latest album which is 2.5 million albums more than you will ever sell.

I find it absolutely, positively pathetic that someone who feels the way you do would even hang around here. Pathetic. Go watch Sesame Street or whatever your intellect allows you to comprehend.

In case anyone thinks I am going overboard, you can tell she was clearly asking for it- and I gladly gave it to her.

Thats where you're totally wrong Frankie Boy. This is a forum for whoever wants to air an opinion, whatever the issue. That Lynn thinkts its over & band not relevant is a perfevtly valid view, not "positively pathetic".

You are the one who is "positively pathetic" for firing up at the slightest bit of criticism or negativity.

When it comes to talking about intellect, its clearly a subject you know little about.

For what its worth I agree with Lynn it is all over and as we all know selling 2.5 milion copies of an album these days is hardly a yardstick of talent, good taste, musical relevance or anything else.

Get over it son

It's not the slightest bit of criticism, she came in here looking for a fight and she got one so get over it you freeking loser. You admitted to being a troll in another thread so keep on trolling buddy and keep looking just as pathetic for not having something better to do with your life.

There is a difference between constructive criticism and trolling and I can tell the difference, so go back to your own little Mickey Mouse world that you live in by yourself and keep believing that a band that still sells millions of albums and concert tickets isn't worth a damn but remember it is your own little sad world my sad little friend.

would i be right in thinking i've touched a raw nerve here, aggressive little f**cker aren't you.

this and your other responses to Lynn constitute the most ridiculous posts ever made to this board.

Also interesting to see how many others in this thread acknowledge that they are a crap band today.

Having this view however does not mean that I can'y use this forum.

Really you think the majority of people here or in this thread think they are a crap band today? Looks like the vast minority to me. So you are trying to touch raw nerves eh? Figures. That's what little trolls do. Getting a life is a good fix for that ya inbred dope lol.

sums it up nicely, crap band today but have made some great albums that will always be around.

No need to say any more.

Allow me to disagree. Crap band today. Pfff. You should never be allowed to hear music again.

feel free to disagree, thats what this sight is all about.

What I won't do however is come out with the sort of childish abuse that we saw from young Frankie boy. Just imagine living with that dude and there was an argument over a TV channel or something, man its not worth contemplating.

Lol it's site dummy but I wouldn't expect proper spelling from someone who sounds like he was an extra in the movie Deliverance lol.

im sick of this , EVERYONE cares , even my sister !!!

the radio guys here in mexico said SAL was the best rock movie ever! i listen to many of their songs on radio here.
i saw mexico city , dallas , las vegas , and 3 london full , so no one cares , eh!
well , there was tokio , shanghai , buenos aires ( that was the good shit of the year for argentinians!!!) , rio ( 1.5 million stoner boys) , ( munich , berlin , paris , twicks , nyc , all of them full .
who are you to say no one cares anymore , are you their assistant , their 1st minister , council or something????
or MAIN FAN?
there's too many people (i think more than 10 million at least) that care about them.

People go to the circus in droves every year...no longer ground breaking seeing the trapeze....
People go to James Bond movies each time because it is familiar and PREDICTABLE and fun.
Let's not automatically equate numbers with greatness. I go because it is like seeing family....NOT because I expect to see anything groundbreaking except the age barrier which the blues guys broke anyway

Re: No One Cares Anymore

yeah , Lynn1 , i agree with this , but this doesnt mean that no one cares about them anymore.
and yes , they should make something not just trying to be a new and fresh band , they should do a normal rocknroll hit song , open the vaults and record them like they did on tatoo you , some blues stuff , and they would proudly be called the biggest band in the world again.
but im sure a lot of people still care about them , if not , they wouldnt be with us these days.

Re: No One Cares Anymore

No you can't automatically equate greatness with numbers Lynn but if it's the same bands (Stones, U2, Springsteen etc.) that draw huge crowds all the time it should say something to all but the thickest of skulls.

Now you are talking about greatness when you were talking about relevance before. If you are saying The Stones are no longer great that is an opinion which you are entitled to but it isn't the same as relevance.

If a band sells seven million concert tickets and albums they are relevant. Maybe they are no longer relevant for you but that is you. Your circus analogy is ridiculous. Do you think loads of people would go to the circus if it were 150 bucks? Yet loads of people still see The Stones at those high prices. What is the circus ten bucks or something? How much for a Bond flick? Ten bucks?

bad pot and can't read and don't know how to equate ANOTHER best of or slight variation of with greatness in the minds of the few not the many.....I love the site too, but let's all stop pretending that we are dealing with a contemporary topic here....historic, nostalgic, old and tired--yes

Sorry to hear you're old and tired and got some bad pot! But try to enjoy life, anyway. Many of us do. And many of us love listening to the Stones and going to their shows.
And what's wrong with wanting a Mercedes? Or a LV guitar case? Custom made... You can't always get what you want! But perhaps life is still worth living? Give it some thought - and get some better pot! Or whatever gets you going.

Re: No One Cares Anymore

Well I don't see you equating relevance with anything else or even going into older aspects of fans of The Rolling Stones from the 1970s and 1980s. What has changed? The usual - amounts of people and records sold and where they go and movies and now DVDs. For example, to use A Bigger Bang as a lack of relevance, you might want to reconsider this: it still sold just ad well than all but 1 album that was released in the 1970s (that would be Some Girls).

People go see whatever. So everyone's sheep? What do you do? How old are you? You are just sounding like an idiot now. Maybe you should just be like someone that has their own choice - change the channel. I go by crowd attendance and record sales because saying "I think they are the best" means nothing and attendance figures seem to support the fact that, gee, a lot of people like The Rolling Stones. In fact, more so than any other rock act in the history of music (obviously only because no one else has kept it together as long as the Stones so there is no comparisons with exception to maybe U2). Whether you think my way of relevance makes any sense or not is not the point either.

I don't see any equating anything with anything that makes any sense at all. Nobody but the people on this board cares? What, is this some exclusive important THING? Wow, what a load. Go get you some ego trim. It is only rock'n'roll. It's not important. It's just music, not air or food or water. Nobody NEEDS it to survive. It might help but it's not blood.

Great post FRANK M but I think we should all simply recognize folks like Lynn just try to get a knee-jerk reaction from us die-hard fans. She got it, too bad we even bother to answer her in such a logical way. A waste of time, in a way, but I was still happy to see your sane response, Frank. If an outsider gets jollies riling up fans of the Stones, we should feel sorry for her because she never felt the thrills we experienced, or the excitement and genuine joy that all of the anticipation brought us! I wouldn't trade one second of my time enjoying this band that has come to feel like family...odd as that sounds to an outsider, I'm sure. Irrelevant? To whom? One with no passion, I'd imagine...WHAT A SHAME!
