Hey R did you see him in Grand Rapids? That was the last time I saw him during his last summer tour with the Black Crowes (two years ago?). I drove up from Saginaw and was stunned by the enthusiasm of the crowd! He is truly loved in GR! Was a great show!
I've seen him everytime in GR. I don't know why as he's not really a favorite of mine though there's no doubt this town loves the guy. When the Crowes opened for him they were so god-awful we spent their entire (much too long) set pounding beers in the concourse. Consequently my memories of Tom are bit foggy on that one.
I DID notice the other night the songs came quicker and there wasn't the interminatable pauses between them (up to to two minutes in some cases) of previous opening nights here. I also liked the mellower vibe and the more obscure songs rather than the Classic Rock Radio / Petty Hit Parade.
Well am always suspicious when someone doesn't watch a show and says it is god aweful... perhaps your not a fan of the Crowes...but I thought their set was great, and actually way too short! It was a bummer they didn't play a full set, probably because they were more a backing band for that tour, but to see Marc Fort back with them was fantastic! They did an incredible version of Coming Home...
Petty was great as well, a little more polished and by the numbers, but good show.

I saw him last night in Hartford. He was great. He played for 2.5 hours.
Mike Campbell stole the show and is one of the most underated guitar player around.
Real good show.

Ok, R, obviously not a Crowes fan. To each his own. But to say Chris R can't sing, and Rich R can't play guitar??? Well again, to each his own.
I for one thing they are fantastic, their new disc Warpaint is one of their best.
At the Petty Show they were great...yeah long jams, and many folks don't like that...again to each his own...but I don't think they are anything like the Greatful Dead. Who I like as well...but totally two different kettle of fish. Yeah the Crowes do jam long on some songs, but with a more harder rock edge than the Dead.

If you are further back than the first set of benches...FA GET ABOUT IT!
You should have walked across the border and caught a bullfight (lol).
I told you to use the park and ride. My cousin missed the stones with $450 tickets because she couldn't find parking....but she's a piece of work anyway.

You're right, I'm not a Crowes fan. I think they're third rate poseurs regardless of which retro-guise they trot out. However, I saw and heard what I saw and heard that night. Rich, especially, couldn't even play in time. I may not be a fan but if they were good I'd admit it.
That said, they're going to be at the Orbit Room here (1,400 seater) on 7/27. If I go it'll be for Grace Potter but once she's done I'll be GONE... like cool breeze.

Well we compromised and took a cab Bluz. I don't know who the genius was who decided it was a good idea to start the show at 7:00 on a weeknight. But that's LA LA land for ya.....Anyway continuing my Hollywood vacation today. Off to Hollywood park I go.

I want to glide down over Mulholland....Just got back from the Petty concert at the Hollywood Bowl. First the basics. Good solid hits driven show by Petty and band. Highlights.Steve Winwood coming out to do a very tasteful version of Can't Find My Way Home, and a rocking version of Saving Grace. ...I don't mean to nitpick, but this is the 6th Petty concert I've caught over the years. Tom,you have a deep, rich catalog, dig into it....Now,the Bowl. The myth is bigger than the legend. What a bitch to get in and out of. Like most of LA. I don't want to say we had crappy seats, but I think we were closer to Tijuana than Hollywood. Altough for ambience,it was cool to see the Hollywood sign. No matter how many times I come to LA I still get a kick out of that.

Furtehr proof that everypne in the world reads IORR...and blatantly steals from here. Reading the review in today's LA Times of Weds. Petty concert...What's the headline. Gliding Down Over Mulholland...Bastards,I said that two days ago.
