Did Jagger say: "Elvis is already dead", back in the 60's?

I read this one time.

It allegedly happened in a press conference in the sixties.

Don't know about Jagger but Lennon definitely said Elvis died when he went in to the army (or something like that. This might have been after The King actually had left the building to be fair).

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

But I do remember reading in a French rock magazine Jagger quoting himself when Elvis died. And he was rude.

Jagger was staying at Ahmet Ertegün's house in Turkey, listening to the radio. He didn't know Elvis had passed.

The radio aired an Elvis song, then another, then a third one. Jagger, quoting himself, remembered that at first, he said "what's going on?" then "This (offensive word) must be dead".

The leaders of the Stones and of the Beatles were not too respectful for Elvis.

But Keith surely did respect Elvis guitarist, Scotty Moore.

As I recall, the Beatles and Stones were disappointed by many of Elvis movies but impressed by his "comeback" 1967 TV show.

As we all know in IORR we can sometimes be disappointed in performers we've admired but also joyous when they do well again.

But the Beatles were impressed when they met him in August 1965 in his Bel Air house. The comeback show was in 1968.

Yes, you're right. Comeback show was in 1968, and I was invited to attend the taping at NBC in Burbank.

The Beatles were more repectful to Elvis than he was about them: he told Nixon he thought they were corrupting American youth.

One of few pictures taken documenting Elvis meeting the Beatles...

Elvis is in the doorway, on the right. That's John Lennon walking past the car...

Beatles already died in 1968 after the White Album.

I put the CD "Help" on last night, and my wife said: that's horrible music - worse than the boys bands nowadays - I can't agree more, I just wondered why I bought the CD - maybe just to torture myself.

Seems like the only period Beatles somehow were alive was 1966-68 - else they have been dead. Horrible, hillbilly music.

Was listening to Queen tonight - much better harmony singing by the Queen than the Beatles.

Just wondering - had the Beatles started in 1970 - they wouldn't have reached anywere close to where they are now - what a pitty.

Wished Bealtes didn't exist, and not the freaking, stupid, ridiculous, horrendous, smiley, hillbilly, happy, joyfully face of Macca.

Only the stupid Macca could marry Heather Mills - a fomer prostitute - what a scandal, but maybe Macca was in a desperate need of a woman / sex. That just shows what a person he really was - money doesn't make ervything. Theat hillbilly working class stupid jack-ass sun of a bitch.

why are you calling McCartney a hillbilly? The way you're using that word is quite offensive to people from rural Southern America but Paul McCartney a hillbilly? I don't get it.

He said it in a BBC interview just a couple of days before he left the Dakota building himself for the last time

there's this great longer footage than originally released of E practicing real spare with only his main rhythm boys (drums, bass and guitar impeccable) at MGM studios for one of those early 70's documentaries.
he himself is playing loud bitching prominent rhythm guitar and there goin' thru a bunch of numbers, all with that incredible down home rock groove, and at one point he turns it into Little Sister...keeping that same rhythm and groove he goes into a lot of his hits and other songs...not even a tempo change...it was startling thing to be privliged to see...after a bit he turns it into Get Back for a chorus or two, never once leaving that original rock groove they were so deeply into. after two quick choruses (complete with signature git riff) he easily turns ir right back into "little Sister" not changing a thing...for a second there's a look on the Kings face. hard to describe...sorta like 'that's where it comes from son and that's the way it's done boy' or something. hard to say with just that little look on his face but it struck me.
incandescent.
