She sounds like Donald Duck to my ears. But I must admit that the other tracks are better.

Works for me. Here's another one...

"Duffy With Bernard Butler Ex Suede Rockferry"...

what i found strange about alot of these new people that come along is how they are marketed.

I've always thought Amy Winehouse is a jazz singer but they will never come out and admit that as none of these kids will want to by a jazz record.

Amy Mcdonald and Dido are really folk artists but again are marketed as pop stars instead. Maybe some of them have a bit of a pop fusion in there but it would be nice to see some of them admit it now and again

OK I bought the album and agree it's pretty good. So thanks guys for the recommendations. Even Mrs Natlanta likes it, so like it's got that going for it.

Anyway just saw this review of a live performance...

great show, last night, (wed 4th) at The Shepherds Bush Empire.

played for an hour and a quarter, and blew the roof off the place.

Such a huge, booming voice.

It grabs you by the bollocks and doesn't let you go.

Highlights were Rockferry and Distant Dreamer, but the entire set,
was stine-tinglingly powerful.

A priveledge to see such an outstanding talent,
at a relatively, intimate venue.
Arena's beckon....

Distant Dreamer is my absolute fav and one one the greatest records recorded this year.....

just heard Warwick Avenue which i think is the second single from the album. I think they made a mistake with that as Mercy was a great pop song and very catchy and this song couldn't be more different. It shows she isn't a one trick pony but this song just isn't very catchy and doesn't really make you want to sing along or anything and certainly doesn't make me think i want to get the album now

Being catchy isn't everyting. It shows she has depth and would encourage me to get the album. Who would want a re-hash of Mercy everytime....

This one is probably the strongest with Bernard Butler

(the sound is better on the album), and this one without him

She reminds of Amy Winehouse. Only with talent.

"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"

I think Amy Winehouse is the first to admit she was primarily influenced by jazz and that's more than obvious on her debut album 'Frank'. Duffy isn't as talented as Amy but she's a great deal more impressive live because Amy's been drunk most of the time (or certainly unfocused). Duffy is refreshing admittedly and a far cry from the manufactured pop which often clogs up the charts.

Better late than never I suppose, but have just bought Rockferry and am absolutely blown away. What a great voice, wonderful productions and with only 10 songs, the record doesn’t outstay its welcome.

Not overly impressed. The wife bought it but it's manufactured soul for the now generation. File under Joss Stone etc. All worthy but I've heard it before. It's join the dots together soul.

I bought Rockferry in April and I listen to it every 2 or 3 days since. This is one of the best new records I have bought in ages. Every song is a winner to me. Ironically I find Mercy the weakest track on the album. To me, Distant Dreamer is one of the sweetest songs I have ever heard. What an awesome track that is! Great artist, great album (tho its waaaay too short), what a hell of a talent.

Got a couple for my fellow Duffy-philes...

Breaking my own heart (live from Toronto, check out the guitar...)

OneRepublic covering Mercy, and btw I think I hear the Satisfaction riff in there, right?...

A week on and still listening on a daily basis!

I hope she hurries and releases a follow-up! She could make Humpty Dumpty sound riverting!

I think that Mercy was completely wrong for her voice and she sounds very weak. A "lucid" Winehouse would have nailed that track. Having said that Warwick Avenue is an excellent track and I do enjoy the album. I just skip over Mercy.

I have to say that I agree largely. She can obviously sing and the four or five songs I've heard are catchy enough, but there doesn't appear to be a great deal of substance, and the whole lot is overly derivative for my liking. I also can't be doing with this penchant for singing in a manufactured American accent - and yes, I'm aware of the irony of stating that on a Stones message board.

Good, but nothing you can't find on a Dusty or Candi Staton record.

i endured her set at the virgin festival from the VIP area. She has a "good" voice but her senseless warble did grow somewhat tiresome.

Somehow the intro of Mercy reminds me of Last night by the Mar-Keys

Oh, I did: she was excellent. A true performer and great vocal talent. She came across as being incredibly down to earth and was an absoloute joy.

Too many highlights to mention, though the new single and Warick Avenue were particulary memorable.

Yep smiling smiley

The gig was basically a run-through of Rockferry with a few new numbers thrown in.

It sounds like early Dusty Springfield to me, and therefore unnecessary. Typically enough, when visiting Norwegian TV, Duffy was compared to Diana Ross. Dusty Springfield would be more accurate, but alas, too unknown to Norwegian viewers!

Well, to be honest, speaking of Norway, The Supremes were more well known than Dusty in the 60s, too.

Glad you liked it!

I find Duffy fantastic. One of the best new artists in the last years. I missed her on her european tour this summer, so I never saw her live in person but only on TV and it was superb. She's got a great voice, great stage presence and in interviews she comes over like the girl next door I want to have a drink with. Very down to earth. Her songs are outstanding (for me). Tunes like Distant Dreamer, Sleeping Stone, Hanging On Too Long etc, etc are nothing more than fantastic. I like her better than Dusty Springfield or anybody else critics always compare her with. Duffy is Duffy and she is unique.

Hope she has a long and successfull carreer.
