I think Keith Richards is a pretty cool guy!
I was just watching some vids on youtube and it struck me how F...ING cool Keith looks during the Video for Start Me Up. I also watched Worried About You and it's the same.
So I say Keith was at his most coolest in 1981.
Anybody care to argue?

Yeah, but in 1988 - he came into his own. That one SNL appearance sold him to many Gen Xers not yet familiar with his own individuality (if that makes sense).

The video for 'Take it So Hard' had a LOT of play.
From Keith's first solo outing to the end of the Urban Jungle Tour - he could do no wrong (I remember the blame for Steel Wheels' blandness was put squarely on Mick).

After 1983 (too angry in 1985) I say 1997-98. Very cool look, dont care for the long leopard coat, but its way better than anything from 1989-1990. Cool attitude, a new good song, Thief.

But, nothing tops 1975-1978. 1974 too. Maybe 1977 is THE year. He was real pirate that year. Hot Stuff at Knebworth 1976 is a lesson in how to perform on stage.

keith at his coldest. 11 october 2006 - soldier field - chicago
that date broke the record for the coldest october day in the windy city. the temperature was about 40 degrees (F), and that's not including the wind chill factor. the weather was brutal, but well worth it.
btw, the little snippet at the beginning of SAL of the band on the b-stage playing under my thumb is from that show.

To me, Keith was coolest when he took himself seriously out on stage. That seemed to end around the time of the 1989 tour. Then again, it was also around that time that he lightened up some and we began to see how much fun he was having.

The Nellcote era - those Tarle photos are something else. Wish I had a scanner but you know the ones I mean!
