Charlie Vocals?

Have Charlie's vocals ever appeared on a RS recording, either on an official release, or from unreleased studio sessions? I suspect not, but this question popped into my head on my drive into work this morning.

I think he's bullied into saying a couple of words on 'Got Live If You Want It' but I guess you were meaning in a singing capacity in which case no.

Just listen to 'Laughing in Rhythm' from 'Vol Pour Sidney'CD , a tribute to Sidney Bechet. Then you know why Charlie never sings...

Haha. I figured there must be a good reason.

And, yes, Tseverin, I was meaning in a singing capacity.

If you watch the film, you'll notice he's mearly standing there and not joining in.

Anyway, it's most likely that the actual vocals we hear on the record are by Mick, Keith and Jimmy Miller, overdubbed at Sunset Sound.

didn't he do backing vox on 'Always Suffering'?

Wait, isn't Charlie performing 'vocals' on 'Something Happened To Me Yesterday,' from Between the Buttons?

Someone repeats the word 'Yesterday' after Mick, and maybe another word or two - I had heard it was Charlie, but maybe that's not so?

he's credited as doing so, but when he was asked about it by fans in an AOL interview in 1998, I remember he seemed to know nothing about it and seemed pretty bemused at the thought of him adding backing vocals!

That's always sounded like Keith to me, doing one of his silly voices.

(Unless, of course, one of you all-knowing Iorreans knows otherwise...)

He is indeed credited w/backing vocals on 'Always Suffering', though I also read an interview where he says he knows or remembers nothing of it. Either he sang on it and is being typically coy, or perhaps it was some in-joke between the Stones camp about Charlie. Maybe he's viewed as the 'always suffering' member of the band, haha.

... i'm pretty sure the "Shirley on Please Go Home" story is a joke as well.
what Mick actually said was "you can hear Charlie's wife shrieking" or something like that -
i bet he means the theremin. ahh the cryptically contemptuous 1967 Stones ... can't get enough :E

A man who plays droms as well as Charlie, should never be forced to sing. And he's the sharpest dresser in the business, too! Even Keith's impressed.

They did get him introduce a song at some of the shows during the Brian era. I have a bootleg of Hawaii where he hilariously introduces a song they have just played about 10 minutes ago. He seemed to be having a lot of fun

"Now I would like to sing... but they won't let me... So, goodbye."

That´s my first post here. Please excuse my poor English!

Last week I couldn´t believe my eyes!! On YOUTUBE I watched some old stuff, NME poll winners concert 1964.

During the chorus of I`M ALWRIGHT you can see Charlie sing along while drumming!!!

Something he´d never do today.

On the Licks Tour, I believe one of the theatre shows when he spoke didn't he kid around and say he wants to sing but they won't let him. I know he said it I'm not sure what show. Of course he was only kidding. Maybe Munich Krone show.

The bloke from 10cc, Kevin Godley, actually has a great singing voice and reportedly doesn't own a drumkit anymore. He's directed lots of music videos over the years. Don Henley doesn't seem to view himself as a drummer first anymore either. He's got lots of drum programming on his 1980s era records. Why does a drummer do that?

He's listed in the credits on 40 LICKS (as are Bill, Brian, Marianne & Anita, i.e., everyone shown in the Godard film).
