" The last Scorsese picture I was wild about was 1990's Goodfellas; my interest in the Stones, recorded and performance-wise, fell off long before that. "

Here's what many here on iorr will quote "against" this review.

Maybe, but the review is true. We are all die hard fans and that is the reason why the music still sounds great to our ears. Nothing else. We are not able to have an impartial look on that. We just feel. Please ask someone who loves music and is not a fan of the band about the SAL soundtrack and he will run away. I am a fan since 1974. For me it is OK how the Stones are these days just because I try not to compare with let's say '73 or '78. That's it.

Do you find that when people use old song titles or lyrics in a review, it starts to become less about what is being reviewed and more about the reviewer?

The "Maybe time isn't truly on their side" line was silly. That song was a cover, it had nothing to do with the bands longevity, but these below average writers try to sound sage by using it. To me, it has the opposite effect.

I don't think so. To be honest, i think the opposite usualy happens! Many "die hard fans" are extremely nostalgic. They want the Stones to play, any time, as they did it 35 years ago. "Oh, where is solo "X" i have heard in the bootleg "Z" from 1976 tour?". That's pointless to me. Every five, six or seven years the Stones were always becomnig a different band. Always. Not a better or an worse one. Just different. Different manners and styles, as eras are changing too. The Stones 1969 and the Stones 1981 were completely different bands as for their sounds. Both of them great bands, but different.

Today, i have the impression that casual fans and the so called "general public" appreciate the Stones much more than many fans, just because they haven't persevarances in the past. They're judging the music, itself. The Stones are still great and the general public does feel it. That's why the huge majiority of reviews published on Press is complimentary when the Stones are on tour (not between tours...). On contrary, on "die hard fans" forums like IORR the analogies are not the same...

(2) "Please ask someone who loves music and is not a fan of the band about the SAL soundtrack and he will run away."

My experience is totally different. Many people i know (noone considers himself as fan) like the playing, the energy and the rock rawness of SAL. On contrary, i remember people "runing away" after having heard some tracks from "Love You Live" and "Out On Bail" boot...

Yes, we have another "tough" SAL Review. Ten or twenty among hundreds. You, know, there were negative reviews for 1978 tour, too...

The self-satisfied Denise and her boyfriend are bores.

I expect their opinions on many other topics are equally "jejeune".

Yawn.

Entitled to their opinions but once again the bad reviews are far far far outweighed by the good reviews.

bottom line- go to rotten tomatoes.com. Shine a Light has received mostly very postive reviews( better than a lot of mainstream hits). Who gives a sh-t if it gets a couple crappy reviews. And for the most part, I would expect crappy reviews from the British press. I was surprised in the USA that Entertainment weekly gave it a B rating. They notoriously slag the stones most of the time.

im a stones fan and im impartial, if i wasnt i would love dirtywork or emotional rescue, thiers a lot of stones songs i dont like and i can make my own mind up to figure out which stones songs fall into which catogary from brilliant to trash, i dont need someone to tell me honky tonk woman is great cos in my opinion its overrated, see im able to make up my own mind, if i wasnt i would only like what i think i should like, but i actually listen to the music first before deciding, and in my opinion shine a light soundtrack is excellent.
