I'm of the mind that listening to a piece of music deserves as much attention as watching a film or reading a book. If you are not given it your full attention yer missing out!

Album is dead. Forgive me, but this is the reality.
We're a soon extinct species, ol'LP geezers & chicks.

I don't think the practical obsolesence of LPs are what's being talked about. It's more about listening to a recorded piece of music. The medium is irrelevant.

Hey JR would you email me for a swap? Chances are Ive a rarity or two that will turn you on!!!

Yes russr Frankfurt 70 is a great recording indeed.....well one show is better than the other but cant remember off hand which of the two it is.

For me it was the first two Cash cds in the American Recordings series that I listened to today. Just prior to that it was Skynyrd "Street Survivors" (2cd expanded edition). The last live recording was Monday which was Houston, TX New Barbarians. I only do the "shuffle" thing occasionally at my desk on the old job since I must hit the pause button frequently.

interesting question - add me to the "every day" heap.
it doesn't really occur to me to listen to less than whole albums.

Age Of The Understated - The Last Shadow Puppets.

As for the Stones, probably a few years ago now. Shine A Light is in my CD player a fair bit, but has never been played the whole way through. That goes for both discs!

Me too. With friends around I usually build a suitable playlist from the MP3 archive, but alone, I almost only (and all the time) listen to entire albums.

DS - Money for Nothing,
RS - many
Bruce - Magic
Santana - Supernatural
JLL - Last Man Standing
Clapton - varies

All the time.
If I'm listening to music, I'm listening to music. And if I fancy hearing an album, I'll usually play it start to finish.
I found quite early in life that some of the tracks you initially feel enclined to skip turn out to be amongst your favourite songs!.
In the days of LPs, folks were much more inclined to listen to at least a whole side of an album... because to do otherwise required effort ;^).
CD encouraged folks to listen more randomly.
The recent trend towards downloading individual songs is a threat to the "album" as we have traditionally known it...and it's a big shame.
An album has a vibe and character which is formed by the songs on it and the order they run in.
It's something more than each individual song...almost a personality ;^)

Eh? Not in my house. I play far more vinyl than CD and despise MP3!

Vinyl will out last any of the new fangle mediums eventually.....

I agree with that sentiment entirely.
The issue today is that we don't have a high quality dedicated music medium to replace the Vinyl LP.
20 years of CD has killed the market requirement for real quality.
A whole generation now don't know what they're missing...and consequently don't want it !

Some Girls- playing in my car most days at the moment. Hadn't listened to it for about 10 years but after SAL felt the need to play it- to me there is not one filler on that album!

Deep down inside I still lurv the albums as well. I think Spud
points the crucial issue out: Cd's brought with themselves the first
nails in the coffins. Still, I stand for that statement that we are soon to be extincted:
how many of the youngsters do listen to albums????

As I paint the pool deck...
Rolling Stones-Aftermath
U2-Joshua Tree
Jack Johnson-In Between Days
Derek and The Dominos-Live @ the Fillmore
Grateful Dead- Closing of Winterland

Though I didn't listen to the complete Winterland because I usually skip past the Drums.
Does anyone have a copy of The Stones playing Winterland from '72?
I didn't listen to them at one play, but I've got a large deck and I was mixing it around, but on a whole, I listened to each album all the way through...

yesterday while i was on the train from london i listened to SAL start to finish twice, i am really loving it at the min, im sure everyone on the train thought i was a wierdo singing along in my own little world,

i agree that you may initially not like a track but when you hear it more it grows on you so if you only listen to mp3 of the tracks you know you like then you will miss out loads

The only whole shows I listen are the actual concerts I attend... I get bored by listening a bootleg covering a whole concert. You have to imagine too much, and it's not the 'real thing'. Like watching pornography instead of having real sex...

Albums are a different case. Those I play regularly. But I need to say that it is quite an effort to listen album like VOODOO LOUNGE from start to finish. No problem with EXILE though...

Brrrr... smiling smiley .. I would like tiny little LPs in vinyl
& a tiny little grammophone player, which I could carry with me.
Those 60s record player devices in plastic & single-record bags
werent that bad..............
