Personally, I think it's Michael Davis' finest hour.

Having now seen the film, I confess my earlier post was premature.

Kent Smith was outstanding.

are you saying that was good or bad?

I liked that. What I don't like when he plays up and down on the keyboard too much. Little touches like that though are cool IMO.

I think people dis Chuck because they think he tends to take over the sound.

To that I say... if the holes in the music weren't there in the first place...
... mmmmmmmm-but anyways. Maybe people should look at the guitarists instead? (runs and ducks for cover, pops back out...)

I'm a big Allman Brothers fan, and his work with them was stellar. They're lucky to have him.

I hear ya, Jamie. My first cancert was the Allmans in 1975. "Jessica" is just amazing.

The way they've re-arranged it ain't the same without him. Chuck drives the tune home.

.....ultimately bad. Too much Chuck this time around........maybe too much Blondie and even Bernard and Lisa.......there are nuanced performances in SAL that really give insight to present day realities with the Stones...

Just by showing up, the MotherChucker ruins my day. I just don't like him, and always will. I live less than a hundred miles from the man, and couldn't care less.

If Chuck's the best Stone, it's time for them to quit.

Mathijs

I suppose you are better? I think you should quit whatever you do.

so hot rocks you are saying chuck is better than the four stones, maybe you should quit life with that disgrace of a comment

... he wouldn't play as much as he does if the band didn't want him to. I'd prefer him to me more like Ian Stewart myself... but I'm just saying...

On the next Led Zepp tour, they are going to play "Boogie With Chuck".

Im glad you came to your senses. Everyone knows Michael Davis' finest hour was on "Love Train" on four flicks.

Thank you Robert Fraser.

Aside from Leavell, the back up singing on All Down The Line is quite awful. Much prefer earlier versions without backup singers.

Yes, All Down The Line is one of the best examples of RS songs that shouldn't have a choir interfering. It's like adding a disco-drum-beat to Prodigal Son... it doesn't fit the spirit of the song. Jumpin Jack Flash is another example.

I agree,Erik. I would rather hear Jagger and crew perform w/o back up singers even if it sounds rougher. well, I like Keith singing harmony with Jagger like it used to be!

Re: Is Chuck the best Stone on Shine a Light?

Yeah Scottkeef, so would I. The first thing a friend of mine said after seeing Shine A Light was "Great movie, but WHY did they have that choir, when Keith was there? Did you hear how much better it sounded in Far Away EYes, when Keith sang?"
While us at this board, who are more 'into' Rolling Stones than the common man, know that the band without background musicians is an utopia; not a chance that Mick will let them go - then again, maybe Keith doesn't wanna sing more than his two songs....who knows.

The studio album version of All Down The Line has Kathi McDonald as a backing vocalist and that worked out pretty well.

Agreed. The Stones sound best live when Keith does the harmonies.
