Well, I gotta say, a top five UK chart position is AMAZING for a live album. Ok, its the stones, and its scorsese, and obviously the hype has been big with the premiere last week, and there are big billboards all over london... But still, its a live album, and these never sell as well. So I am really happy if it makes top ten, and if it hits the UK album chart inside the top five then that is f**king fantastic!!

GO STONES!!!!

Gazza asks: "When was the last time a live album by anyone topped the charts?"

Clapton's "Unplugged" from 1992, maybe. Or Nirvana's "Unplugged". Who knows? Georgelicks knows for sure...

Anyway, i think there is another one reason why SAL sales must be considered as excellent: many people probably wait for DVD. That's more attractive.

About Gazza question:

Last #1 live album in U.K:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Live in Hyde Park (2004, 2 weeks at #1)

Last #1 live album in U.S:
Alicia Keys - Unplugged (2006, 1 week at #1)

Thanks georgelicks for the info. I think there is still a huge difference: "Live in Hyde Park" was the first full- lenth RHCP live album in their entire career, wasn't it?. SAL is the fourth Stones live album in the last 13 years. In addition, SAL includes many songs which had been included in older live albums too, from "Ya' Ya's " to "Flashpoint". By any measure, i think SAL do really strong sales.

Thanks. Live albums by acts who sell a lot more records (studio) than the Stones do these days.

The Unplugged albums also have the benefit of being shown on TV and have reruns too. Its no coincidence that the only Stones live album in the last 25 years to have sold well was 'Stripped', which was a similar 'acoustic' based concept divorced from the usual live album format and which also benefitted from a Tv special that was widely shown.

Congratulations to the Stones. Those figures are quite impressive imo!

I haven't bought the soundtrack yet. Are there different versions of the cd being released?

Georgelicks, i just saw that SAL is #32 on World's Chart with 44,500 copies. What exactly does this figure include? USA sales, for sure, but what else? I suppose the number doesn't incude sales done in the rest of the planet...

That's what I was going to try to do - wait for the DVD - as I'm trying to get the bank balance in a healthier state (and of course, have to ensure there is always enought in there ready for a new Stones tour!).
But, I've decided I can't wait. Going to head out to get it today.

Alicia Keys - Unplugged is actually from 2005. Not that it really matters since this is a Stones message board grinning smiley Thought it was Double Live by Garth Brooks (December 1998 - January 1999, U.S. Billboard # 1). I must be getting old......

Thank god this thing is selling, I hear the Stones were about out of money. I'd had to see the poor sods begging on the corner.
