the English arsenal of expletives is pretty skimpy, compared to some languages,
which is probably why we use the few we have for such varied purposes.
perfectly normal casual expressions like "can i leave my sh1t at your house"
can sound unduly alarming to non-native anglophones, i know.
and if Mick had said "Buddy signs-and-wonders Guy" or "you've been a great fabulous audience"
the Censorship Police would be up in arms, so ... so he can't freakin win, i reckon smoking smiley

Thanks for the lessons.
Next time I'm searching for a f**king expletive I'll know where to find it.

I thought it was hilarious and very appropriate. Budddy Guy is always using that word. I am sure he got a kick out of it. Give me break. It sounded like an homage to Buddy and his filthy mouth. Mick never ceases to surprise and make me laugh. Love that guy.

Live With Me is better then I thought it was going to be.
Aguilera's howling is horrible IMHO. Even worse than Amy Winehouse's bleating on Ain't Too Proud To Beg (Isle Of Wight).

Yes indeed. The only dud in there. Even SFTD with Keith's mangled solo and licks here and there sounds great in comparison. It actually has a unique charm to it. LWM is simply awful. Why why why did they even have her as a guest. Every thing she sings sounds like the finale of one of her fake soul songs. Dont get me wrong she has a great soulful voice, but in that context it just doesnt fit. Doesnt work at all. Messes up the song royally. I was in the kitchen when that song was on and was getting so irritated with her needless howling. I couldnt get to my stereo to change songs so I had to tolerate the whole thing. I was getting very frustrated listening to her. It sounded like she was auditioning on American Idol. Way overdone. Only flaw in the soundtrack, though.

OK, I also could not wait.
Especially cause I ordered the japanese SHM-CD and will have to wait another three weeks before it's here and until april 8 for the movie.

What shall I say?
Obviously this is way better than Live Licks or No Security. It's as good as Stripped I would say?
But how much of it is real? The one thing that has been worrying and saddening everybody during concerts is the guitar playing. Sometimes it was just plain bad or even totally absent. On the record I hear a lot of guitars and little Blondi. So is that real?

The highlight for me is Some Girls. I just love the way they play that riff. Another great one is Champaign and Reefer. As on Live Licks where 'That's how strong my love is' is a highlight it shows that playing bluesy classics is the thing they are really really good at.

Downsides? Jack White's contribution. That guy is a great guitar player. Why don't I hear his guitar? Why did they not let him blow it up at selected moments?

The downloading though takes a lot of fun out of the game. I wish it hadn't been necessary. It's like going to the record shop these days and finding nothing but a handful of people in their forties and fifties. It makes you feel that something died. If anybody of a record company ever reads this. Yes I preordered my copy, so I'm not a copyright criminal, but you guys could at least release this at the same time everywhere and not have it leak through some stupid "promotional activity".

I miss the days of anticpating a release and actually having to go and buy it at the store. And possibly even have to wait in line, god forbid. I still get the same way. I feel the anticpation. But now I can just go and listen to samples or the whole thing before it is even out. It is hard to resist. These people today. No patience for anything anymore. Takes all the fun out. So, needless to say, I downloaded it cuz I could not wait to hear it. No discipline I guess. Man, I really miss those days.

Now I spend days anticipating when a new release shows up in advance in the newsgroups or torrent site and I can excitedly click that "download now" button!

But seriously, I remember in '78 when I couldn't wait for that day when I walked in the record store (God I miss 'em) and saw Some Girls and Dylan's Street Legal on the racks for the first time, released on the same day! I spent the next several weeks flipping those records over..and over! Darkness on the Edge of Town was released very close to that date as well! What a summer that was!

You can still have those "good old days" if you really wanted them. If one wants to recreate the excitement and anticipation...just eliminate the one thing that didn't exist in 1978: the internet. You can't have the internet, be part of a Stones messageboard have the knowledge and ability to download from torrents and still preserve your sense of anticipation and suspense for a release. Either get rid of the internet or start practicing on some pretty tough self-discipline.

It's a shame that the so-called "lead guitarist" can't be counted on to play lead guitar. My kid said that Keith's solo sounds like me...BAD amatuer. Keith plays a LOT of leads on here, and that just isn't his forte. He seems to play the same lead every time! I don't want to hate on Ronnie, but it is what it is. IMO, he hasn't been a true lead guitarist since '75-'76.

That being said, I still like this album! It has a good, raw sound and enough great performances to offset the weaker ones. I'm loving ADTL right now. Great setlist. Heck, I even like Jack White's cameo. When he is singing with Mick I am reminded of Keith's long-gone glorious upper-nasal background wail!

For a late-period live album, this could be a lot worse. Maybe I'm just basking in the glow of a new release and reality will set in later, but I give it a solid B+.

i dont care at all for the "good old days" when i had no money to buy the records i wanted
anticipation is what i went thru in the past few weeks until yesterday so i really dont feel i miss something
well that is not really true because i do miss the vinyl and i am sure annoyed by the cd thing
i am intrigued by the choice of a guy like costello who is going to release his next album on the internet and on vinyl with no cd
i think it is a smart move and i am thinking about turning into that kind of consumer
about downloading for free i really dont feel i am stealing anything anyone. given the stellar profits that my internet provider is making in the last decade i really think that there should be the margins for anyone that provide content to be payed what is due

I miss the old days, but I also love the internet and all it does. I am a true audiophile but still cant resist having all this music at my fingertips. I get every single pennies worth of my monthly Rhapsody subscription. It is crazy how I can listen to virtually anything I want when i want. I am like a kid in a candy store. Hate the sound of mp3s but will tolerate them if i am listening to something i probably will not end up buying. Miss acyually looking at and holding an actual album though.

Anyway, what was this thread about ?

Oh yeah

SAL

great stuff

love it already

cant wait to hear it in it's full sonic glory and not in crappy compressed mp3 format

I just recorded the sixteen track version off IMEEM.

WHAT THE HELL is up with Scorcese jabbering over the intro and preceding SFTD?!? I could see it in the film but who needs THAT sh+t in an otherwise great live recording, CONNECTION and LWM notwithstanding.

As for Keith's solo in SFTD, hell, he's been mucking it up for years. Now at least it's a part of the official discography.

Only heard a bad download so far.

From this Keith "solo" on Sympathy seems like the worst lead fumbling ever recorded by a professional rockmusican!

Live he's doing these kind of embarrassing noises on SFTD for years now.

I really wonder what goes on in his head giving things like this to his audience.

I know and love the Stones and so don't expect any virtuosity but those leads are really too much . .

I counted Keith's lazy bend lick, 6 times in "She Was Hot"...one of them he did no less than 30 seconds from the last one!

I actually am enjoying it. Its different than the live albums to me, and it is really set up like a soundtrack album. This probably has the least in between song banter you will hear since GOT LIVE. If there are edits on the songs, I dont hear them.
If this was just a new stones soundboard boot would you be happy with it? I am, and thats was I feel they gave us if there is indeed no overdubs.

I was at the show, and thought that Christina was pretty good, but listening to it now, it doesn't sound too hot. Maybe it was more of a visual thing. Anyway, it's better than Sheryl Crow, Justin, Dave Matthews, the Chinese guy, and almost anyone else I can think of.

Damn, I wish they would just get rid of all the guests, the side musicians, the lighting rigs, the B-Stage and all that crap, and just play stuff like "I'M a KING BEE, BAYBEHHHH". Mick could sit on a chair for all I care.

I did that when A Bigger Bang came out. I didn't listen to any Stones music for something like 2 weeks. Just to build up anticipation. I was there at the store when it was released, and they had to open the box the CDs was in to get me one. They had only just opened and hadn't had time to unpack the new releases. So I get it, go home and blast it through the speakers. I jumping like a maniac that day. It was great.

What do people think about Loving Cup?

When Mick started singing 'I'm the maiiid...' i felt ill
Whats with that awful high pitched, nasal even fauxer than faux-country voice he's putting on?

Soundwise, the album's mix is a complete mess, with Jagger being the biggest culprit of all. His vocals throughout are absolutely woeful and at times unlistenable; most notably during All Down the Line, Loving Cup and Shine A Light. He even manages to ruin Faraway Eyes by speeding up the vocal so that the famous ironic drawl is replaced by what sounds like nothing more than a rant.

The duets with the so-called "special guests" are just crass and utterly pathetic. I mean, what IS the point of this s**t?

Meanwhile, the guitars are all over the place in a mix that is so bad, that it makes Live Licks seem decent by comparison. Only Charlie comes out of this debacle with any credibility. With the exception of superb renditions of She Was Hot and As Tears Go By, this has to be the band's lowest and most embarassing nadir, reaching a point where they are now quite literally, limbo-dancing with their credibility.

I so wanted this project to work, as a glorious celluloid legacy, but alas, it fails on just about every single count.

It is crassness personified.

Thanks a bundle, Marty.
