"Beast of Eden" / Solo version of Memory Motel
Posted by: Greenblues ()

I got an italian boot the other day, called "Beast of Eden" which is quite amazing. Among it's mostly fantastic tracks is a nice Mick Jagger remake of Memory Motel which sounds like an outtake of Primitive Cool. Although it suffers a bit from the typical "keyboard treatment", I really like the vocals on this.

Does anybody have more information on this track? And what's your opinion on this one?

Thanx TooTough, I should've looked there first ;-)
But there must have been another guitar player involved. The intro doesn't sound like Dave Stewart at all... Maybe Jeff Beck?

So I'm assuming then that no one here knows whether or not Beyond the Groove is an actual movie with a soundtrack out there somewhere....

It was evidently a TV show Co-produced by Dave Stewart:

Facebook link with Beyond The Groove mention

I used to go to this studio and there were clouds of smoke in the corner. But I never met Jimmy at the time. Then, in the 1980s, I co-produced a TV series called Beyond the Groove and Jimmy did a live performance of "Save our Planet Earth" from Mulholland Drive in LA, but I wasn't there because I was on tour.

I think that this version can also be found on the "Trough The Years - A Collection Of Solo Performances 1982-93" (TSP-191) CD bootleg.

You say that production is via Dave Stewart? It's funny - that slide, I would have said it was a D Stewart slide, or at least produced through him. He's not the grooviest slide player... I love the strummed guitars (sounds like 12 strings) from end of Verse 1 on.
Jagger is the best though.

Satriani comes to mind too, or at least the guy who plays the slide on some instrumentals from the 1988 Australian tour, could be Jimmy Rip.
