so for you collectors out there, do you buy the Japanese version, the regular 2CD version, and the single cd version too? I was just going to get the latter 2, but now I'll substitute the regular version for the Japanese one. I've never gotten the Japanese Licks - 40 or Live, Bridges, or Security because by the time I'd found out, I'd already bought the US version and couldn't see spending the $X for the one song.

I'd be interested to hear what others do - I know given the pictures I've seen from some collections that there are those that do buy them all.

If you're a collector, the Japanese pressings with the obi and the bonus tracks are pretty hard to resist. I try to resist the urge to buy the domestic pressing early, but it's tough. I'm gonna try to limit myself to just the expensive Japanese SHM-CD set for Shine A Light.

I've bought my Japanese release, and I am strongly considering purchasing the US 2CD release as well. I'm obsessive compulsive when it comes to bonus tracks and special releases.

For Live Licks you could get a copy protected double CD without the bonus track, and you could get a not copy protected double CD with a bonus track.

Didn't know there was a bonus tracks for the japanese edition of Live Lick!
Just bought this missing gem right now!

Always happy to learn things there.

My Japanese 2 CD version of Live Licks has the bonus track AND says that it's copy protected but,my Marantz CD player/recorder copies right through it with no problem.

The bonus track "If You Can't Rock Me" is far from a gem.It is edited down from around 3:35 to 2:46 but, they also chopped out an entire verse and looped another one so that it appears twice. This was the HBO version from 1-18-'03.They could have easily used the 1-16-'03 version instead. That would have been a much better idea.

My copy of No Security is a little banged up so I may get the Japanese version when I get Shine A Light. Live Licks I can't justify buying twice for another version of a chopped up song.

I have been ordering from cdjapan.co.jp for years. Prices are reasonable as is the shipping rates and they are always shipped fast and secure. I always but the jap pressings as you often get little extras. 40 licks came with some cool stickers and all the lyrics. I know most studio albums come with the lyrics but the japanese always have the lyrices for every album. I have even some jap singles of you got me rocking and rolling stone (which came with a pull out of scribbled type notes- dont know if this was from one of the band members.

Anyway I suggest always getting the jap versions, for the little OBI, the extra track, and often the better packaging

Cheers, Brendon from New Zealand

I bought that Bigger Bang Tour Box with all the Virgin CD's in individual sleeves and was amazed at the attention to detail and the quality of the packaging (right down to replicas of the original obis and the Emotional Rescue poster). At the end of the day, it's the same CD, but for us obsessive collector types . . . . .

That's what I thought until I purchased RECKONING by R.E.M. lol -- no lyric sheets of course. I wonder if any of the early R.E.M. albums came w/lyrics, anybody know?

No, none of the albums with Bill Berry have lyrics printed (except for Green, which had the lyrics to World Leader Pretend in the sleeve).

Bestbuy.com is listing both the 1 cd and 2 cd versions of Shine A Light. On the listing for the 2 cd version, they indicate it is a Best Buy exclusive. The 2 cd version is not exclusive to Best Buy though, as Amazon and other places list it on their sites. The Best Buy site does not list the track listing for the album. Best Buy has frequently been able to include bonus tracks of albums they sell, such as the latest John Fogerty album, so I'm wondering if they will possibly include a bonus song (Undercover Of The Night?) on the 2 cd versions they are selling or if they have stated "Best Buy exclusive" in error. If they did include this same bonus track on their version, it would be a lot less expensive to buy than the Japanese version.

It looks like Best Buy is also offering the Japanese version on the site??

Maybe the Best Buy (non-Japanese import) bonus track (if there will be one) will be Honkey Tonk Women?

The Best Buy "exclusive" is a promotion for the film:

Why go out and buy a DVD when you can download that too? (Grrrrr).

I have a question about these Japanese CDs. Some time ago I bought Live Licks in a slipcase Japanese edition. But with no extra track (I've also seen a No Security like that). The manga girl doesn't wear the leather clothes, but an even more covering yellow top and undies. (Don't know if it's Japanese, but the text looks like it. For all I know it could be Chinese or something).

I'd figure a DVD release more like Sept/Oct if you go by the normal 6 month theater to DVD window.

i'm guessing sooner....movie studios (or whoever) aren't waiting as long anymore.

i would think the fact that this is probably not the type of movie thaat
will stay in theaters a long time.....not like Indiana Jones or something.
The appeal is not as mass........and these days dvd sales are such a huge
part of the movie biz.....they won't wait. I bet it's out by July.

I don't know if it's true but I was told that for imported CDs are cheaper in Japan than their domestic (Japanese) counterpart -- so they add a bonus track to encourage the Japanese to buy the locally-produced product rather than the EU or US version.

I want tariffs imposed in the EU, US and Canada on all Japanese products --especially Vinyl Gang!

The Amazon Japanese site has a useful feature that gives you the option to show pages in English. I ordered from them before, very reliable.

10. Champagne&Reefer(with [badei] guy)

11. Roll the dies

I just found a seller in Austrailia on ebay selling for $48.99 +$7.99 s/h + $2.99 insurance , just under £30 delivered , some things you just have to do ,
Bargain?
Well obviously not so much a bargain as expected , this item has not turned up and his feedback has got worse over the last month.
This guy had good feedback a month ago his shop now has nothing for sale and his feedback has gone private , I know I can get my money back from paypal , it's still annoying though when you pay for something a month ago and then have to read everybody else on here discussing the good and the bad of the show ,thinking it will turn up soon .
So what do I do now , can anybody recomend somewhere safer to get the Japanese edition
