OT Drive By Truckers

Any fans here, their southern rock grooves might appeal to some here. A recent discovery for me and I'm really enjoying the new album which features the GREAT SPooner Oldham on piano. the also played on the comeback album by the GREAT southern soul belle Betty Lavette. Just got tickets for their summer London show.

Here's one Nanker.
I agree with you, even if not all tracks included in BRIGHTER THAN CREATION's DARK are at the same level;let's go back to previous albums and you will discover good stuff (The Dirty South is one of my favourite)

Just been chatting to my mate SeanTheChippie and we came to self same conclusion.Sothern Rock Opera is another good one. If the live stuff I've heard is anything to go by its should bea good night at THe Electric Ballroom.

I'm a big fan. I'll be seeing them in Bonnaroo in June. I love all the tracks on the new CD, except that "crystal meth" song isn't very well developed in my opinion. And yes, Spooner Oldham adds a nice touch.

I've got that song "Pergatory Line" stuck in my head right now.

"Bob" is a funny (yet sadly true) song. I know several "Bob's"

A blistering hot band, even more so that Shonna Tucker gets to take the forefront a bit. Live they will blow you away, you start singing along to songs you don't even know they're so good. The band can also play some mean RS covers, including "Moonlight Mile" and they have a tendency to work on a bottle of Jack during their show. Their former bandmate, Jason Isbell, can bring it up as well. Both are highly recommended for any Stones or rock fan.

Brighter Than Dark's Creation is the best album of 2008 so far. Anyone who loves Exile will love this classic bar band. Killer songs and a ghost on the highway brooding attitude.

I recently got my first Drive By Truckers album (Decoration Day) and quite like it. "Outfit" is a great song. It's piqued my interest and I'll be searching for more of their cd's in the future.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant band.

Everything from, and including, "Southern Rock Opera" is an absolute must-have for any discerning and, dare I say it, literate and erudite rocker. Their stuff prior to "SRO" is a tad punkier but good nonetheless.

The new album is top drawer (their "Exile'") despite the depature of 1/3 of their crack song writing team, Jason Isbell.

I missed Jason on his solo tour but his album is exceptional I think.

Saw the Dirt Underneath Tour and it was excellent. Bulldozers And Dirt, Nine Bullets - I wish they would have played The Company I Keep and The Hard Sell.

I never got to see them with Jason but I do have the DVD. They were pretty rough. They've gotten better. Saw them on the Blessing And A Curse tour without Jason and they sounded great. Then I read it was the first show where they actually finally started to gel with John back in the picture.

Gangstabilly is a decent album. Pizza Deliverance - surprisingly good album. Southern Rock Opera is a rockin' album and I like it - except it's the one album I hardly ever listen to for some reason. Although I did find the jewel case edition in Holland when I was on tour over there. The Dirty South is probably their best album so far. Decoration Day is pretty damn good, as is A Blessing And A Curse. The new record, take off half of Cooley's tunes and it's a pretty good record. Bob is terrible. As much as I dig the digipak because it's similar to a vinyl record, the damn things get beaten up too easy!

Just bought my tix for DBT at Ballroom Camden.

Sorry Skipstone I have to disagree with you regards Bob. It is a great song. The lyrics are superb.

Did you see the article about how the worst song on the album made the reviewer actually listen to the album? The whole thing was about how bad Bob is. It came up quite easily on Google. Bob is one weird dude, the little closeted freak who lives at home.

Thanks skipstone, I'll look for the article. "Bob" is a quirky song.....and I like it. I know some guys that are just like "Bob." A couple of them are clients of mine.....it's a funny song about what might seem like a sad existence.

Aftermath USA is perhaps one of the better songs in all of rock'n'roll for me. They opened with it last spring and it was most excellent. A great song to turn up ALL THE WAY. Especially when driving!

Look forward to seeing you all in London. We'll set up a time to meet up in a suitable Rock N Roll pub beforehand.

Ciao for now

DBT tends to not use a set list so they can pull out surprises on a nightly basis. One never knows what you'll get.
