Best solo in a stones song

IMHO the three best solo's in a stones song... MT playing the shit outta the pentatonic scales in "Can't you hear me knockin'" , Wayne Perkins in " Worried about you". Keith in "Sympathy" . I'm going with Wayne as the best tho. (No offense to Ronnie. Nor Brian's flash during that beatles tune.) I really wonder what could have been with Wayne Perkins. Like I said just my opinion.

Not Fade Away (so simple, so great)

Hide Your Love (the second solo)

Hand Of Fate

Tie You Up

Too Tough smoking smiley

Sad Sad Sad

Driving Too Fast (on the Outtake CD it´s a bit longer)

I love Keith but 'Keith in Sympathy?" C'mon!

Imagine a sober and focused Keith & Ronnie playing Sympathy, Keith on rythym, and. . . Ronnie on lead!

Imagine how good that would sound!

a surprise best lead mention: "We Love You Ronnie" among other titles of the Italy 82 show. Some Smoking leads in that show!!!

um... I forgot about "Time waits for no one", "Silver Train" and " Hide your love". Guess I should have said Favorite solo's.

Keith on Sympathy For The Devil, the LYL version of Around & Around and You Got Me Rocking.
Ronnie on the studio/live single version of Tumbling Dice and all versions I've heard of Start Me Up (Especially on the VL tour).
Taylor on Can't You Hear Me Knocking and Sway.

What did Brian do of solos? I always found it hard to hear wether it's him or Keith.

Brian knocked out a brief solo on " I wanna be your man" that was a shocker for the time.

Knebworth - Tumbling Dice

SFTD...original recording.

Often ranked by folks completely missing the point as the "worst guitar tone ever". It's sparse, uncomfortable and evil. Everything it should be.

AS for the rest, I'm still a sucker for all Keith's uber Chuck Berry riffing...[at least when he's paying attention ;^) ]

I personally love that lead, and the entire song, maybe because when I was 13, all my guitar solos sounded like that.

Talking about REALLY outstanding solos, one can only expect from the Stones I'd say "I Wanna Be Your Man" and "Sympathy..."
Plus I like the primitive soloing in "Dance Little Sister" and Keith's Chuck Berry licks in "Bitch". Everything that's not guitar-god-like but rather guitar-devilish.

Ronnie on the Rarities - Wild Horses cd single - live version of Tumbling Dice. Smokin'! Ronnie on Blinded by Rainbows. Also his steel on The Worst. MT's solo on Ya Ya's Love in Vain is way up there. Hard to chose one...

Ronnie? Isn't it Mick playing the solo in Streets Of Love? Not that I've heard it more than once...

Ronnie Wood

Wild Horses - Knebworth (& a couple of other shows from '75)
When The Whip Comes Down - 1978 tour, especially 'Sucking In The Seventies' version
YCAGWYW - The Hague 29 May 1976
Black Limousine - one of the studio outtakes of this song has his slide featured more prominently than the released version
+ almost anything from the 'Stripped' sessions

Mick Taylor

Love In Vain & YCAGWYW - almost every version from the '72 Tour (not so keen on '73 versions, not sure why)
Angie - Brussels Affair. A bit obvious but it is just really really good.

Keith

Route 66 - Got Live If You Want It EP
Bye Bye Johnny - MSG 26 July 1972

If all my solos sounded as good as that I'd be a happy (excuse pun) man.

The tone on the SFTD solo is killer - compare with Clapton on John Mayall's Bluesbreakers album and there are similiarities. Vicious attack, treble cranked - classic Les Paul. It may not be as fluid or flashy but it's evil and that couldn't be more approporiate for that song.
