>Maybe we get a good review of Modern Times, A Bigger Bang and Chaos & Creation in the Backyard, but it all goes away in an instant.

For the record: MODERN TIMES *debuted* at #1 on the Billboard Charts, a first for Mr. Dylan. I find that pretty impressive though I'm always confused when folks drag sales into any sort of discussion of artistic relevance (not that I just did ...).

AC/DC -The best and hardest rock n roll band ever. The best riffs in history.

Depeche Mode - These guys have done everything. pop, rock, synth, electro rock n roll, acustic, alternative, gospel, electro soul etc... But still always sounds like DM. Still going strong.

The Rolling Stones - Cool band. Great live band. Cool music. 45 years in the buisness and still going strong.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - So many great songs during just a few years.

Iron Maiden - Sound better than ever. Still making relevant music.

Pink Floyd - Great music during so many years. (a reunion please)

Black Sabbath - Created metal, nuff said

Beatles - Everything from fun popmusic to progressive stuff.

Ramones - Punk, rock n roll, "hard pop" if that ever excisted!?!. Great fun music during 20 years. RIP Joey, Johny, Dee Dee.

Queen - Nothing more to add really. Great music. Great live band. RIP Freddie.

What's the deal with this twerpy band The Strokes? My girlfriend's son says They saved the rock scene in New York City. Is that a load of crap or what?! SAVED THE ROCK SCENE IN NYC!!! Then he said Well that's what their fans say on their DVD.

OH. I see. Their fans say that.

From what I've read they are spoiled little boys. He bought their second record. He made us listen (well, that's a bit much - he asked if he could play it while in the car and, well, sure, why not? Everyone gets their turn...) to the first one - insisting they're awesome (oh, to make matters even worse he's just 'discovered' Led Zeppelin and is going on and on and on and on and on about how great they are and how come we don't have their CDs at all they're so good - and the response he gets over and over is We're quite a bit older than you, we heard them eons ago and now when you turn on the radio it's all you hear so there is NO NEED to have ANY Led Zeppelin record etc...I know that's a bit much but really, I did get rid of every LZ album I had because they are on the radio so much and frankly I just don't care). So he puts their second record (took them something like 7 years to make 2 albums!) and...it sounds exactly like their first album.

And based on what all I've heard of The White Stripes, they pretty much sound the same on everything as well. No wonder The Rolling Stones are so highly regarded with the amount of diversity in their catalog (as well as a plethora of other bands among everyone here).

I don't know what the world is coming to, when a band like The Rolling Stones aren't allowed to play a kick-ass song like Jumping Jack Flash. I didn't go to my first concert in 1998 to see a nostalgy act. I went to see a great band that played great songs...

Ex-ACT-ly.

I saw Roger Waters do Dark Side last summer, saw Gilmour's Floyd do it in '94. This album came out the yaer I was born. Do I care? No.

When people go to the opera, are they complaing when Carmen is performing?
What about the nutcracker in December for ballet/symphony patrons?

When I see the Stones play Jumpin' Jack Flash, that song isn't 1968 for me - it's the hear-and-now-experience of the song! That's the whole point of a concert. If people are going to ruin their own enjoyment crunching release date stats at shows, they better not do it anywhere near me man, unless you want a beer in your face!

I remeber in 1998 seeing the Stones in the Montreal Bell centre - closer than I'd ever been to the band at the time - I was elated! Then some fat dweeb turned around and starting bitching about the set list stats as the confetti was hitting the ground. I poured my beer on his head. It was quite funny.
