Grateful Dead - unpolitical thread

Just read the other one (going down the road) that was banned.

2 unpolitical questions.

1. How was the gig?

2. Bill Kreutzman wasn't playing. someone asked why that was. Anyone know? Is he republican?

'trainarolin' staed that Bill Kreutz. wasn't worth much. Someone else asked what 'trainarolin'' meant by that. I'm curios too. Nice gentle imaginitive touch I always thought. A 'mood' player', instinctive - rather like Charlie.

I love listening to 73-4 GD....when only Billy was the drummer....his flows and rolls are second to none.

IMO Mickey Hart is a little full of himself, or he comes across that way.

I asked where was Bill in another thread too?

During past 'Dead' tours I had heard that Bill was just not into touring much anymore. Bill was living in Hawaii and did not want to leave to tour and that was one reason why the 'Dead' did not tour more.

True?

I do not know.

From what I understand....Bob and Phil don't see eye to eye....I think that is the main reason they don't tour?

According to the story in the San Francisco Chronicle. Kreutzman had other obligations in Hawaii. I don't know if that's double speak for he just didn't want to do it. But that's the story they gave at the press conference....As far as musicians and political endorsements. I like Tom Petty's line. When asked who he liked for president. Petty said nobody should ever ask a guitar player what he thinks about politics.

There is a video that's now up on CNN.com of one song from the concert. Playing In The Band. It's ok,the vocal mix isn't very good. But still kind of interesting.

"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"

I do not have a clue about Bill Krutzman's political views. I think he is a tool !

He is one of the rudest musicians out there and just a mean guy...no clue why?

Met him a few times and he really goes out of his way to be a jerk.

The worst time:

Several years back in Philadelphia (2002 I think) he did a book signing of his artwork. I went with a friend, he bought his book had it signed and he then asked him to sign a photo that was already signed by Garcia, Weir and Lesh. He signed it and then ran his finger through the not quite dry sharpie signature and said something like "whoops, looks worthless now"

Someone mentioned about a riff between Bob and Phil. I think he has to do something with Phil releasing free downloads of his Phil Lesh and Friends shows on his website. Bob does not want Grateful Dead music avail for free...something like that. I remember reading something about that a longtime ago.

Here's a pic I shot of "The Other Ones" (Grateful Dead without Garcia) I shot in November 2002. Susan Tedeschi was a guest vocalist. This one was later signed by Susan and Bob.

Shit!

Sorry to hear that Trainarollin. I had no idea that Bill could be a prick like you describe.

Regarding the free downloads. I had heard that Bob too disapproved of it all being free, or something like that. Maybe Phil felt that they always allowed free taping and trading and should not charge now because it violates GD principals, or something like that.

I can see both points of view. A compromise: a one to five dollar surcharge for the shows.

From what I read, Bob Weir said Phil had some kind of awakening after he had his organ transplant and wants to give back something to the fans who have stuck by him. Bob was/is against it.
