Origin of the new LA #1 '72 tape?
Date: December 25, 2007 02:51

I'm listening to this and I like the sound quality but the instruments are horrifically out of tune and Mick obviously can't hear himself because he's embarrassingly off key.

Where in the Faboo forum was this recorded?

You mean "Slay 'Em In LA", Menace...
Don't know the origin, but it's really good for a 72 audience recording. Way better than the VGP bootleg anyway.

How NEW is this source you dudes are speaking of?

Oh not that new, Macman, maybe a couple of years.
It was torrented in 2005 or so....probably circulating earlier...

What is that? The 1972 Forum show - the early one? I went to that, 6th row floor, have a ton of super 8 film (silent) really good stuff - Jagger off key? That was how the Mickster sang in those days but my ticket was $7.50 mail order - no scalper, can't beat that.... Honky Tonk Woman on there as an Encore?

HelterSkelter, how about putting that super 8 on dvd? I dont know where you're located but in Tx Walgreens photo dept. will do it fairly reasonable!

I wanna do it but can't take it to a place - must do it at home.... got burned many years ago when I took in 3 or 4 rolls of Super 8 Sound film for processing that was shot from the front row (not the pit front row so in reality about 10 rows back but with a great Zoom lens) standing on the seat at a LOUD and wild T Rex concert at the Santa Monica Civic.... I'm sure it was great stuff, too bad the store said "It was lost in transit" Yeah, sure.... some lab guy dug it and now he has it..........

This tape surfaced out of nowhere through the RSBoots trading group in 2003.
The discs that were originally sent out were running way too fast (3-4%), that´s probably why you think it´s out of tune.
I got my disc from the taper himself ("I remember it being an afternoon show 4:00 pm. I had good seats about level with the stage. I used a Sony TC124 stereo cassette recorder with a dual element mic.").

Really nice sounding recording but the VGP version of this source ("Welcome To The Breakfast Show") is horrible and should be avoided if you are looking for the best sounding version. A perfect example of boot labels ruining a good recording with excessive EQ.

I see what you mean. Have you ever tried looking for an individual locally? In our local "Shoppers Guide" theres someone w/home ability to transfer. I also have a friend I"ve known for 30 yrs who's daughter manages a Walgreens in Arlington. But I sure can understand your dilema after getting screwed like that!!!

I haven't been able to locate this recording. Everybody says it's one of the better audience recordings from the '72 tour. Anybody know if it's currently being torrented anywhere?

Re: Origin of the new LA #1 '72 tape?

I was not clear in my post (imagine that!). What I meant was, where in Forum was it recorded from? I know that Mick said in Rolling Stone magazine that the band was having trouble hearing itself. Listen to Toronto #1; it's completely in tune in a 147 degree hockey arena.

The VGP release is, as TornAndFrayed wrote - quite lousy.
Look for a CDR titled "Slay Em In LA". It was meant to be shared without any profits, but I guess it's just a matter of time before some label try to cash in on this.

The torrent is dead, but it will probably be re-seeded on Dime.

Anyway, I dl'd it last January and can seed it/open up again in case somebody needs it.

Hi Silkcut,

I remember seeding the show at Dime, to a person who asked for it....about 8 months ago. There were no other seeders, so it probably died after he finished the download.
So, I'm speaking of Dime, yes.
I'm sure a re-seed would be welcome!

I'd download it if you wanted to reseed. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

There is another silver issue of both LA concerts but I cannot confirm if indeed it is sourced from this original tape or simply a copy of the VGP final product.

"The GReat Western Show" 2CD Exile Label June 11, 1972 both shows

Hopefully someone can tell us more
