i love this one, not only because it's one of the few post-1963 shots where Stu's on stage with them.
it looks like maybe the april 8th 1964 Ready Steady Mod Ball at the Wembley Empire Pool?
the stage was on wheels and the fans were delighted to discover they could push it all over the floor

- 1964 (probably april 8th - don't know who took it, sorry!)

Here's another pic from the Ready Steady Mod Ball show:

Yeah, the first days of the B-stage.
They played the really obscure stuff on it back then.
And Mick didn't even need his headset.

sweet - thanks Memo!
and in fact they didn't "play the really obscure stuff" at that show, Hanns Rainsch -
apparently all but one number (I'm Alright) was mimed to playback - part of it was playing back
while the band was still struggling to make their way through the crowd to the stage. :E
that stage on wheels wasn't the best-thought-through idea RSG ever came up with.

Those mod ball pics do seem to indicate that more than one song was played, perhaps I'm Alright and Not Fade Away!? Songs that involve Brian moving from guitar to harmonica or vice versa.

meanwhile...

>> Those mod ball pics do seem to indicate that more than one song was played <<

well, more than one was *presented*, certainly - there are four listed on nzentgraf.de,
three of them being playback. James Phelge describes the scene in his book - if i recall right
it was during Walking the Dog that they finally managed to get to the stage. :E

The date is from getty images, but I'm not so sure about it as various Beatles sources state two separate dates for the London Premier, none of them being 6th March!?

ah so - yeah, getty is not that reliable about the dates. it seems like the right event, though, right?
what other dates are floating around for the premiere of Candy?

Yeah, I guess the event is right, but The Beatles sources state differeing dates in February.

smile: indeed! I'm Alright was a three-way shared vocal, so i wonder if that wasn't mimed as well?
although it might not have made much difference at that point :E

An oldie, but newly released pic of The Rolling Stones' (that's Keith and Brian)first appearance at the Marquee in Wardour Street, London, on 12 July 1962 as backing for singer Long John Baldry:
