I´d like to learn more of Keith´s favorite Open-G and Drop-D guitar tunings. Anybody know of helpfull websites or list of chords for those tunings?
Thanks

As far as I am aware, the Stones never recorded any song in drop D. I think you mean open D, wich is basically open E two semi-tones down.

Nope, standard tuning with capo on -if I recall correctly- 7th fret.

yep, that's the 5-string version of open G -
drop-D is something else (standard tuning with the low E tuned down to D,
and it would be hard to call it one of Keith's favourite tunings)

Thanks, what other tunings did Keith like to use?

did or does? :E
open G and standard are his most famous favourites,
but he's used open E, open D and Nashville-strung/tuned guitars too

I am going thru my GP Stones´ tunes trying to figure out chords for open G. On "Happy" he strungs loose strings or with finger on 2nd fret. It´s like a whole new instrument...

Try using a capo at the 4th fret for that one. Most of Keith's open G stuff is pretty easy to figure out.

Yeah, a whole new instrument to learn, and it makes new ideas jump out at you too. Youll find a lot of Stones songs in there if you 'look'...

Here's a site that tells you more about open g tuning and Wild Horses :-

I can't think of any Stones song with drop D tuning off the top of my head. The Beatles used it for a couple of tunes though. George Harrison (detune just the low E) lead guitar on Act Naturally (Rubber Soul). John Lennon rhythm guitar on Dear Prudence

What's the point with drop-D? Any particular music style it's good for?

Re: Open-G Drop-D

You can mix easily with the power of open tuning and solos. The chords will also ring differently.

YCAGWYW, is that in open g (with capo on 3rd) or is it a different tuning, Ive asked many times and I always forget. I think the studio version is different with capo on 7th?

A lot of players in various Metal sub genres use it. It gives the weight of a detuned sound without too much complication. Otherwise it's not especially suited to any form of music in particular... but it is obviously handy to give a different range of options when playing in the appropriate keys. It can alter the flavour of what you play quite noticeably too...especially on acoustic.
Another nice benefit is that it's like having an open tuning on the bottom three strings...so all those chugging rock rhythms can be played wih a single finger bar.

Played live YCAGWYW is usually played in open G, and often with a capo on the fifth fret.

The studio version is in open E with a capo on the eighth fret.
