Jimmy Page does not play on Hurdy Gurdy Man, neither does John Bonham regardless to what Donovan might say.

Of course, Jimmy Page features on Brian's Degree of Murder soundtrack, the excellent fuzz guitar heard during murder scene being a highlight.

Donovan said John Bonham was the drummer? John Paul Jones was certainly involved and okay, maybe Jimmy Page wasn't, it's just that with all what’s being said, I'd of thought he'd have been involved in some way. Maybe rhythm guitar?

Yup, ol' Donovan likes to make claim that 'he' started led zeppelin with page, jones and bonham featuring on that track.

It's bollocks though, just JPJ's, no page or bonham.

wait, so who did play the guitar on "Hurdy Gurdy Man"? Big Jim Sullivan? Alan Parker? (this Alan Parker must be the same as who is now believed to play the riff on David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel"?)

Alan Parker plays the fuzz guitar heard on Hurdy Gurdy Man.

Alan Parker was also in a group called CCS who recorded the Whole Lotta Love Top Of The Pops theme.

Lulu looks quite like Adele in that still. Two great songs, even without Jimmy Page:

when I worked in a specialist record shop, we had a running joke "Rare 60s Beat single NOT featuring Jimmy Page" anyway here's a nice find. A 60s attempt to cash in on the Beat Boom , The Hairy Ones EP featuring

Jimmy Page (Lead Guitar)
John McLaughlin (Rhythm Guitar)
Alan Weighel (Bass)
Bobby Graham (Drums)
Kenny Salmon (Organ
and the stones connection, here's the track listing

01.Gloria
02.Its My Life
03.Get Off My Cloud
04.Ring Dang Doo

wanna hear it ? check this link

And of course we all know that Page played on the Them classic, but thats not him on well known lead, page played rythem whilst Them gutarist Jim Armstong played the well know riff, contrary to popular opinion

According to John McLaughlin, he only met Jagger once and they got along well.
When it comes to the Stones, he heard them playing, and he said to himself: "what the hell is going on here?", "they sounded terrible and out of tune ", and walked out again. That's Mc Laughlin's only connection with the Stones: A thin line between snobbism and him being a musical innovator.

Evidently, Jimmy Page and Big Jim Sullivan play guitar on Petula Clark's hit - Downtown....

Jimmy Page also plays on this 1965 Nico recording, I'm Not Sayin' for Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate Label [written by Gordon Lightfoot]. This track is also said to feature Brian Jones on guitar, and with the ALO connection it may well be. Jones and Page later collaborated on the soundtrack for A Degree Of Murder.

Page also plays on the B-side, The Last Mile, which he co-wrote with Oldham.

Jimmy Page also teamed up with Jackie De Shannon in the mid-60s. They formed a songwriting partnership which led to the songs Dream Boy and Don't Turn Your Back On Me, among others.

Their songwriting partnership also resulted in a top 10 UK hit for Marianne Faithfull [Come And Stay With Me; #4 UK, #26 US, #14 Australia].

Page's pre-Zeppelin career is fascinating. Evan prior to him joining the Yardbirds, he had such a varied recording career. Whether it be strumming along on the latest pop hit, or soloing wildly on some obscure slab of prime rock 'n roll.

I remember the originator of this thread, Nanker Phglem, mentioned he had some health problems and hasn't posted in over two years.

Anyone have any news on Nanker ?

Good point. Bumping this thread up for that reason.

Page also plays the lead on the Who's Can't Explain. This was confirmed in Townsend's recent autobiography, which is a great read.

In a May 1974 interview with Creem magazine, Jimmy Page claimed to have played rhythm guitar on the song as a session guitarist,[4] which was confirmed by Pete Townshend and record producer Shel Talmy.[5] According to those working on the recordings, Page's contribution to the session is believed to have not made the final cut, and has been brought into question.[6] The Who have used "I Can't Explain" throughout many of their live performances, often as the opener, and it continues to be a staple today.

I have his book, just too lazy to find where in the book he talks about it.

They also recorded a version of Bald Headed Woman with Page on guitar, which was the B-side. According to John Entwistle, Page is featured on the song because he refused to lend his fuzzbox to Pete Townshend.

Just checked and all he says is that Page sat in on the session, but going by yhe owrds of others including Page himself, Page didn't play the lead on the track. grinning smiley

...and if it wasn't for Muzak, page may have stayed a session player
...(reference-comments Page made in the documentary "It Might Get Loud"))

Page's only contribution to a Who recording is the fuzz-box on the Can't Explain B-side, Bald Headed Woman. That's documented in the liner notes of the Deluxe Edition of the My Generation album. Shel Talmy may have initially intended for Page to contribute more to Who recordings, but, like with the Kinks, he really wasn't needed.
