Nice touch that...says a lot. I don't think you'd get that from somebody who wasn't genuinely friendly and respectful to his fans.

Beast my glamourous dear, just out of curiosity:
was it the copy you'd already bought that Ronnie adorned with this exclusive original drawing,
or was buying a new copy a prerequisite for getting in the line?

I also had a "Happy Birthday" inscription in my copy, together with a small cartoon sketch of a RW smiley face!

I can answer that on behalf of the glam Beast. No, it wasn't a prerequisite, I think Beast bought the copy Ronnie signed about a week ago in a separate bookstore ... do correct me if I'm wrong Sara !!

no it wasn't a prerequisite.

you had to have a copy in hand, if you were in the queue.
Whether you bought it at Waterstone's or elsewhere, was of no consequence.

Paulywaul is right - I did buy the book elsewhere last week. But it wasn't possible to get anything else signed. When I got to the front of the line, after I'd done the obligatory of depositing my bag, I had book in hand and underneath that one of Ronnie's solo CDs. But the CD was spotted by a security guard, who said only books were allowed and saw to it that I put the CD down before letting me proceed. Fair enough - but worth a try...

Maybe if the fan waiting in line were to come up with something unusual to say or maybe some memory fom a concert to share with him, it would break the spell and make it less impersonal; I see that white8 had a great encounter at one of Ronnie's other book-signings and that is more the kind of meeting I envision. I would certainly want a picture taken with him and for those that had a little picture or cartoon drawn by Ronnie, THAT is awesome! I was thinking of going to the signing in NYC on Halloween. Now that could be cool.....shall I buy a Ronnie mask??

As for getting additional items signed, never hurts to put a CD cover inside the book, tucked away. When you get to the table and he's signing kindly ask if he would sign a CD cover too and say it's inside the book. It usually works.

Yes, I have found Stones security folks to be humorless, to say the least!!

Well, yesterday was a hassle, but well worth it. Had a half day in work and then travelled up from South Wales. Got to Waterstone's around half 3 and was number 73 in the queue. After 3 hours of waiting finally got inside. Had a bit of a scare when Ronnie nipped off for a break but he was only gone for around 10 minutes or so. Had all these searching questions in my mind, but when I walked up to him I just came out with "Alright Ron?!" Had a bit of a chat though and shook his hand. Luckily my sister met me at the shop and took some photos, but unfortunately they weren't the best! We were told by security that there were no posed shots, but I just said to Ron that I'd travelled a long way for this and I'd be grateful if he just coincidentally looked at my sister at the same time as me. He just laughed and was fine with it. He was a top bloke, which was a massive relief, as part of me was a bit wary about meeting one of my heroes

I'd just like to add that I asked Ron if he was touring with the Faces next year. He said "as long as they can get past Rod's manager!". Interestingly a mate of mine behind me in the line asked about the rumoured tour and got the same response.

It was nice to meet him if only for a few seconds.

Welsh Stone, I'm really glad that it turned out to be a pleasant experience for you; it sounds like Ronnie is as sweet as I thought. It must have made you very nervous when he disappeared for his tea break! Yes, meeting those that we have admired for so long can be very un-nerving but at least all of your memories will be positive, happy ones.

Too cool...glad for all of you... I think it's great if you get to meet any of those guys. I've always heard Ronnie is very nice with fans... I remember back in the '81 US tour, a friend of mine met Ronnie in a bar in New York and asked Ronnie if he (my friend) called another friend who was a huge fan that if Ronnie would talk to him. Ronnie agreed and the call was made at 4 a.m. and Ernie was woken up early in the morning and could hardly believe it and he thought it was a joke. He was convinced it was really Ronnie and he was completely thrilled!

But way to go, glad you all had a great day!

I had a brief chat with Ronnie about Stones gigs in Germany last summer and he asked if I'd enjoyed them but when I told him I'd been to his Theatre Royal gig in 2005 his eyes lit up and he was really keen to talk about it. He said it had been a great night which he really enjoyed but he mentioned there were no decent recording of it. He said the ones that exist and had very low sound levels. I told him he should check out one or two of the bootlegs of the show that are about and he laughed. Interestingly the bloke next to me in the queue goes to a lot of signings - especially at Waterstones. He said sometimes those signing can have a ridiculous set of rules which bar you from talking to the "star". He said this was the case with Frank Lampard the Chelsea footballer. The bloke said he ignored it because he used to know Lampard's father and that when he spoke to Lampard he had actually been happy to chat. It appears - like a lot of stars - it was only the minders around him that set the rules. Anyway Ronnie was more than happy to chat and seemed genuinely pleased to meet his public. I got two signed books - one for me and one for my wife.

Oh, I thought you meant Ronnie's "dedication" that he penned to me which was simply Tim The Plexiglass, but I see you are talking about another type of dedication!

I am simply very grateful for the people and friends I have met thru this organization. A lot of things have happened that could never have happened in my pre-IORR life. A fine bunch, a fine lot!

Thanks Sweet!

Did Ronnie by any chance wonder why you call yourself "Tim the Plexiglass"?

I have not yet heard all the details from my angel, but may be able to answer that when I do. You are about the third or fourth person who has asked me that. I am very anxious to know myself!

Tim

you are not 'the Plexiglass'.

The one and only true Plexiglass appears as a revelation only to those who seek out the Rolling Stones when out on tour, many rush forward at it's early sighting so that they can absorb its wise words and then pass on to others.

Tim

you just happen to be one of the Plexiglass closest observers, that is all.
