Rock 101.1 in Vancouver are having a vote for the Beatles versus the Stones in a number of different categories: best album, best song about women, best movie etc. It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and the voting goes until tomorrow. We need your help as we are behind the Fab Four in several categories! You have to register but that takes seconds and is painless. Vote at:

I Want To Hold Your Hand vs. I Just Want To Make Love To You

Let's think about that for a minute........

Just listen to Keith in Monkey Man....is there any point in discussing it after listening to that?

i almost registered and voted but actually read the terms of agreement and decided not to give them my info for promotional purposes. it's not worth the spam.

Pointless debate but if i had to choose it would be the beatles, for they were simply the better band. I'm sure for a lot of voters (and i wouldnt bother) the beatles get the voted for a variety of reasons, nostalgia etc but also the beatles recorded output wasnt tarnished by substandard output, of course ity would have had they stuck around for another 3 decades.

The Beatles were slightly better than the Stones in the 1960's, but the Stones kicked their arses in the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's....
Rolling Stones - 4 decades
The Beatles - 1

i don't care much for the beatles. i never really got them. lots of songs that were kind of dumb. i guess i like the "let it be" album. that's about it. don't bother trying to point out what genious i'm missing. the bad boys win.

Eh? ...and what exactly does this prove? That the Beatles were not a functioning band in the 70's, the 80's, the 90's and the 00's?

But still - almost everytime a Beatles product is launched they still beat the Stones. I do believe that the Beatles' "Beatles 1" outsold "Forty Licks" by a large margin? And the funny thing is - every original Beatles album has probably outsold any Stones original album, therefore the logic says that more people would own the Beatles' songs already......

...and what of it? IMHO the Rolling Stones are the biggest, the baddest and everything else...and that is what matters - to me, anyways.

By every other objective standard - except concert wise (the Beatles did not have a Jagger) - the Beatles are the greatest.

But I don't lose any sleep over it.

It proves beyond all doubt that its still 1964!

Tune in for tomorrow's vote - should we stay out of Vietnam? - and Wednesday's, which asks if it's possible that man will ever walk on the moon!

Pontless, pointless, pointless!

I will say though that I think the Beatles had the upper hand untill '68. Then it ALL changed! winking smiley

Dragged along to a beatles gig in the 60s. As the boys put it, it was 'the last time' As live musicians, they weren't. Worst gig ever and i have seen some artists live.

People were also phoning in with comments. From the ones I heard while driving in the car, it seemed to be more pro-Stones. There were comments like Beatles were pop...Stones were Rock, Beatles are nastalgia...Stones still kicking ass. No one compares to the Stones live even in their mid-sixties, etc. Lots of good music on the radio this weekend!

It really doesn't matter who wins some dead-beat radio poll from somewhere in Canada nearly 40 years after the Beatles split. Just listen to and think what you want.

I've listened to Gimme Shelter etc. a million times. But do people really listen to Beatles songs that many times? Perhaps they do. But to me, this is a big difference between The Stones and other artists.

YES od course they do. you prefer is subjective, but facts are facts. both bands are hugly poplular for a variaty of reasons, and guess what you're allowed to like both.

I've said before on ohter boards, these polls are silly. The only poll that matters at all was one I participated in about 25 years ago. I was the only respondent. The STONES won in a LANDSLIDE 1-0.

Re: Beatles versus the Stones

The Beatles had the best music producer and engineers on the planet...and they made the Beatles sound so much better in the studio, almost magical.
The Beatles sounded like crap live in concert, very thin sounding.
The Stones are the unltimate live band and had a great studio sound too on occasion.

Someone post a picture of that guy with the shirt that said "F*ck the Beatles"

They're like night and day. I don't think you can compare the two, because they eventually became two very different bands, and always were from the start.

How could they 'eventually became two very different bands', if they 'always were from the start' ?
I think you mixed up a Keith quote with a Jagger quote there...
