Just bought rarities and I am surprised how much I like it. First I thought I know about every song, its not really rare stuff. but the total pack, track listing etc makes me really love this album as much as i like the other albums.
Anyone else kicking on rarities? (oooh that version of beast of burden i hadnt heard since I lost that old single with time is on my side about 1985) Love it!

That album makes me angry because it's a wasted opportunity. Were it not some sort of half-assed contractual obligation, they could have compiled every unreleased studio B Side and genuine live rarity, dropped the crappy remixes, included the full-length 12" mix of Miss You, not included stuff already available on in-print albums, and maybe thrown in a couple of unreleased outtakes for good measure.

Nikolai is spot on!

I liked it because of Let It Rock and BOB, thru the lonley nights and tumbling dice. The remixes of of Harlem shuffle and Mixed emotions (songs that I like the original version of) are the only two things the stones have ever put out that I feel are actually un-listenable. the rest of rarities is OK, such as I just want to make love to you and the remix of miss you, thats pretty cool. Live with me you can already get on No securtiy, dont see the point of including that.

Yeah I understand your point, thats what I first thought, a dissapointment. But when i started playin it, it got me. A nice surprise. Like that start of tumblin dice. Its more like a good compilation album, not really rare stuff but a nice collection, so the title should have been different.
But I think i got most of the rare stuff anyway from hot stuff, that endless list of real rarities, like munnich hilton, i need you,what gives you the right, youre too much, can go on and on and on..

Despite what the liner notes say, that is incorrect. The version on RARITIES was recorded during the VL tour and released on the European WILD HORSES single. It's a legitimate rarity, and superior to the version on NS.

It could be better, but I like it!!

How can songs released on big-edition cd-singles in the 90s be "rarities" ?
We all bought those ones 10 years ago...if not...one can find them at ebay for 1$.

Of course the single -- WILD HORSES. And not all fans bothered to shell out the dough for those back when they were first released (though I did of course).

so WH is not technically rare since you could have gotten it on tripped.

but anyways, I remmeber when i found the LARS single used at a record store with all down the line and black limousine as a b side. it was one of those moments where your just like...SCORE!!!!!

I incorrectly thought LWM was not a rarity, which as you pointed out to me is. I then brought up wild horses as a song that is not one.

Does anyone happen to know - as I'm at work and can't look at my cd at the moment - if the version of IJWMLTY on Rarities is the same as the bonus cd single version from the Flashpoint era, or is it the bonus track from No Security? Or maybe a 3rd version alltogether???

I wish I could remember which version actually is on Rarities of IJWTMKTY. I believe if Mick says Many years ago we used to play it fast now we play it slow etc...than it's from the Flashpoint singles. Correct?

Fancy Man Blues - I guess this is a rarity since it was only a B-side. In fact, I think this was the last new 45 single I ever bought. Never could find the CD single.

I Just Want to Make Love to You (live) This was rare to me because I missed that particular single although my roomate had the vinyl EP which was, what, what single was that? Didn't it have 2000 Light Years...was that the Highwire EP?

Tumbling Dice (live) - Have the single this is on.

Mixed Emotions (remix) Another Side Of Steel Wheels was such a horrible idea. Especially with those horrible awful 'remixes' of Rock And A Hard Place. At least Fancy Man and Cook Cook were on it.

Wild Horses (remake) - This is STOOPID.

Through The Lonely Nights - The best rarity on here!

Beast of Burden (live) - It's obvious why it didn't make Still Life - stinks!

Live With Me (live) - Another B-side I have.

Anyway You Look At It - Saint Of Me B-side. So does that make it rare?

Let It Rock (live) - Have always wanted this one. So I guess it's a rarity.

If I Was A Dancer - This track is so rare I don't think I've ever heard it before even though it's on Sucking In The Seventies and Flashpoint-Collectibles...

Harlem Shuffle (remix) - They could have put the BETTER remix on here.

Miss You (remix) Another one from F+C. Not so rare I guess.

Mannish Boy (live) - An edit version on 70s. Why is this one rare?

Wish I'd Never Met You - What was this the B-side to? Terrifying? I like the tune but I can see why it was left off the album. It's just too soft.

I like the album. I would have preferred the better remix of Harlem Shuffle and the One Hit remix and a few other remixes. Could have done without the Mixed Emotions remix. There are lots of other tunes, better tunes, they could have put on this album. And they could have at least gotten the releases correct but that little nog didn't do his homework for the liner notes. It reeks of Wikipedia knowledge. With exception to the two actual bonafide rarities on this album, this album is pretty much a waste of time.

As long as these songs never made it on a proper album, and that these cd singles are now out of print, I think they qualify as rarities.

If I Was A Dancer was released on Sucking in the 70's, which had just been remastered and reissued on CD a year or so earlier and was still widely available.

Hardly a rarity.

Thru & Thru is an unreleased outtake from Live Licks - not a rarity.

Had they included the 8:26 version of Miss You that was released as a 12' single, it would have been a rarity. Instead they used a version which has a minute edited out, therefore rendering it's inclusion utterly pointless.

a few of thses songs aren't rarities but a rarity is a song or version of a song thats not easily available. are most of these songs rare? yes because they are from out of print singles? am i happy with the product? kinda. i rather wish it was just all the non remixed b sides. yes some of us have these songs on singles but that doesn't mean its not rare and its nice to have it on a cd

Artistic relevance for this CD is nowhere to be found. But it is very nice to listen to it. There's great songs on it.

True. Nobody needs it. But it's still nice to have it because the songs blend really nice.

The songs fit together nicely. The only time I think "WTF is THAT???" is when the intro for the horrible Mixed Emotions 12" starts. It's not a good remix. They should've chosen something like the Don Was Out Of Control Live Mix or maybe the great rock mixes of Don't Stop or You Got Me Rocking (The Don't Stop Rock mix is actually better than the one on Forty Licks).
