This is a goodun ... live studio recordings...
Amps buzzzing ... raw blunt blade riffs but it
aint Chicago blues its Hill Country stuff ....
think Kimbrough --- Burnside .... and Auerbach
vocals riding into Skip James territory on Going Down South ...

And if Kenny Brown's involved ya know its gonna be dirty....

I wonder how that latest Oakland 69 record sounds. Its sourced from the KSAN broadcast, so it could well have been downloaded from here and transferred to vinyl. Looks tempting but way too much bread to justify another boot version even though its not strictly Live'r Than You Will Ever Be and I think Graham got his tape independently of the boot tapers and thats what was supposedly broadcast. I remember hearing this on the radio and thinking they were playing Live'r only to find out later about the other tape source.

Thanks Rockman, as we all know all too well, its easy enuff to write something on a record jacket, but its sometimes harder to actually deliver the goods. Am looking for this record though, too much postage in most cases.

Rockman you check out that Afrikan Blood Studio first collection yet? I had a chance to last night and man it is killer. I never had the LP before, I think its a reissue but not sure about that part, but for sure its one of the best compilations of reggae I have heard in a while. especially like that "Drought" song that uses Marty Robbins Cool Cool Water for its lyrics. Fantastic Al Campbell song to start off side one. Wailing Souls doing a festival song, and some fine Skully Simms and Uncle Alton are standouts too. And the red vinyl Yep Roc pressing sounds great.

Its a great break from the dreck Trojan keeps shoveling, not that they put out bad stuff its just they have been recycling the same recordings for fifty years now and after seeing them for fifty years, I have grown bored with the label. Sound quality did improve immensely once they got bought by Sanctuary, but now they just release the same tracks over again under a different cover.

Soul Jazz, Heartbeat, and now Yep Rock still rep the Studio 1 originals with much better sound than the old S1 ever did.

thats the first time i had heard that version of Send Another Moses, did know the Lopez Walker on Phase One and the Oak Sound five man army cut which is a real corker. This record was full of revelations, that's what I love about reggae music, forty years and still hear tunes I never heard before. Pretty sure the one on this LP is the original but not positive.

Edit to add: this bothered me so I dug out the records and none of the three songs are the same, the Lopez Walker has some similarities to the Willows version on Afrikan Blood, but not the same song at all and the Oak Sounds song is entirely different. So...fell for the titles, but wrong again.

BTW if you don't know the Five Man Army (Dillinger, Trinity, Wayne Wade, Al Campbell and Junior Tamlin in combination) cut on Oak Sound 12", get to know.

Re: Afrikan Blood: I also liked that the liner notes IDed the dread on the cover as Joseph Cotton. Never would have guessed that.

Here’s one of mine for ya mate. Disguise. Testing the waters with Stones fans is a sometimes brutal litmus test. Turn it Up ! Mick Taylor inspired every slide part I’ve ever played...a definite Stones Connection.

I am going to check in on that Beefheart set.

I remember that "home taping is killing music" BS. So self serving and mostly used by labels like Trojan who were such bootleggers to begin with. Tape on!
