After several years in the making, Document records is proud to announce the release of “Searching for Secret Heroes.” This DVD / CD set, complete with a 26 page, illustrated booklet, tells the story of the making of the legendary “lost” film, “THE BLUES”, made in 1962 by blues historian and author Samuel B. Charters, with the assistance of his wife; author and photographer, Ann Charters.
The DVD features one hour of interviews with Sam and Ann Charters. PLUS, the complete screening of “THE BLUES”, never before commercially released. Featuring: J.D. Short, Furry Lewis, Gus Cannon, Memphis Willie B, Pink Anderson, Little Pink Anderson, Baby Tate and Sleepy John Estes.
The CD Features some of the recordings made at the time of the making of the film plus pre-war recordings by the artists (except Baby Tate). Bonus tracks are provided with previously unreleased recordings, including interview, by Henry Townsend, that did not make it to the film. Henry talks about his musical influences and how he met Robert Johnson.
The accompanying booklet has notes written by Gary Atkinson, Bob Groom and Larry Hoffman.
