FINAL QUESTION

What's the latest you can tell us about the upcoming Stones studio album the band's been working on for a while? Will any outtakes from the last record, (blues covers LP) "Blue & Lonesome," appear on this new release, you think?

I don’t think there are any outtakes from that session or record that would be used. I think the band is keen to do all new material. You know, I’ve only had one, I think, two-week session with the guys - I know that there has been other recording without me being there and I think there’s also songs that are still being written, quite frankly. It’s difficult for me to give you a big picture, because I just haven’t heard it other than the sessions I was involved in. But I love the fact the guys want to do new music, and I think they’re very keen to take their time and make sure what they are working on is going to be special, so I have no doubt it will be a good record.

Don Was appeared in an encore at Tedeschi Trucks Band show yesterday.
He played "Statesboro Blues" together.
That was something of great interest to me.

Charley Jordan -- Stack O' Dollar Blues ---- Chicago 1930

Well it's too late to holler, baby, too late to weep and moan
It's too late to holler, too late to weep and moan
Too late to holler, great God, when that stack o' dollars done gone

Well it's mama, mama, mama, what's that you got hidden in that grip
Well it's mama, mama, mama, what's that you got there in that grip
Said, "It's nothin' but a stack o' dollars, your babe gonna take a little trip"

I'm sittin' on a stack o' dollars just as high as I am tall
I'm sittin' on a stack o' dollars just as high as I am tall
And if you be my little old baby, you sure can have them all

Well it's baby, baby, I'll tell you what I will do
Well it's baby, baby, I'll tell you what I will do
I will give you a stack o' dollars just to make one more night with you

You can mistreat me, baby, do anything you want to do
You can mistreat me, baby, do anything you want to do
Someday you're gonna want me, but your baby won't want you

Now I'm going to sing this verse, babe, and I ain't gonna sing no more
Going to sing this verse, babe, and I ain't gonna sing no more
For that stack o' dollars is worryin' me, Lord, and I got to go

I wander why this song peaks on most regions at 1, 2 and 3 and in Perth on 8th? is there so much different in one country ? (just curious)

Perth (capital of Western Australia) is roughly as far from Melbourne/Sydney as LA is from Chicago. In 1968 the only road across Australia (along the southern edge) wasn't even metalled. Up until 1966 (I think) even the railways across Australia to Perth were not Standard Gauge, so travelling required several changes of trains. (Even now the trains in Perth are a Narrow gauge, so the interstate train has to end its run at a station at the outer edge of Perth).

Flying would only have been for the very rich, so the only way to travel interstate was by ship - taking several days.

In very many ways Perth/Western Australia had a very different 'culture' to the rest of Australia, so it's hardly strange that something was a huge hit in (eg) Melbourne was not the same in Perth. (And vice verse I guess).

Western Australia has an area of over 1 million sq miles, which makes it about FOUR times the size of Texas.

It's big, it's remote and in the 1960s it was very different. It has changed, but not as much as one may think.

Flew up the west side of Lake Eyre at daybreak … breathtaking scenery ..

What a trip …. I could write a book about all the things that happened ……
