The rumours have been circulating since London that the boys will do a five night stand at MSG in New York to promote the Shine a Light film.
BV is saying that they will tour in 2008 so I assume that this rumour is a possibility.
Looking at the scheduled events already booked at MSG, my guess is that it will be early April or even the last bit of March if this is actually going to happen. I am assuming the Rangers and Knicks are holding dates in April for playoff games and that would make scheduling concerts during that time pretty tricky.
Right now MSG is taken on the following nights: March 26 Knicks, March 27 Rangers, and March 31 Rangers, April 4 Rangers, April 6 Knicks, April 9 knicks, April 11 Knicks, April 12 Titans lacrosse, April 14, knicks, April 18 Titans lacrosse.
Assuming a day off between shows, it could be March 28, 30, April 1, April 3, April 5.
Or, April 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 but the last two dates would likely conflict with the Rangers, assuming they are in the playoffs.

They don't play five shows in a row anymore. The average is 2½-3 shows a week.

They can have some shows at MSG and some at the Continental Airlines Arena if they are worried about the stinko Knicks or Rangers getting in the way. The Devils are playing in Newark now I believe, so only The Nets will get in the way at The Meadowlands.
I think that is what Bruce is doing. Shows at both The Meadowlands arena and MSG. The Stones have forgotten about The Meadowlands arena for some reason.

No the rumours I heard was Bangkok and India possibly in February and MSG in April. That is all I heard but with only those shows the problems I see are:
1. is it finacially feasible 2. they need more shows to warm up for MSG (because some of the European ones were not too good).
1. Yes it is. Dubai has also been mentioned for that Asian leg, plus the US leg will pay for any shows in less profitable regions. not to mention tour sponsorships. A Stones tour will never lose money.
2. There'll be more US dates than just New York! Maybe some in Europe too.
an auxilliary band member told me in 2006 that they were considering an 08-09 tour that would likely be residencies in major markets. That doesnt give any validity to the rumor tho.
As for logistics they'd hire the venue for a 12-14 day period for the 5 shows, hypothetically, and leave the stage in place the entire time.
That sounds like it would work for the band at this stage in the game...but there are only so many markets they can sell 5 nights in 2 weeks...unless of course ticket prices come down (in other words...plenty of fans...not plenty of $$$).

Not what Ive heard. Not a full tour, but possibly a brief visit in main markets.
Then again, a US tour wont in all likelihood be a major scale 'tour' either in the way we've been used to.

Well..to say theyre touring "in support" of it is a misnomer. They're not really. Its basically a promotional tool to give them some publicity. Likewise with 'No Security' in 1999.
Theyve just finished a European tour in which they basically didnt 'support' an album, so its no big deal. These days the tour is the selling point, not the album or film, which few of the concert attendees will buy/see anyway/

Which is why the forthcoming press release in which they try to somehow connect these shows to the film will be total BS. They'll never just come out and say "We're doing another greatest hits tour without any new songs because that's what we do now". They'll always have to have SOMETHING to hang a tour onto.

Any idea on what kind of venues? We've all heard that an arena stage is in production. Will it be limited to arenas? (since theaters are not very likely)
Why MSG? Wouldn't 5 nights at The Beacon where the film was shot be more appropriate? Either that or the Knicks, Rangers & Circus could play at the Beacon instead...
