The Enemy at the O2

The Enemy a knockout at Stones' gig Sep 3 2007

TEACHER Kay Hanger from Coventry was in the audience at London's O 2 Arena to see city band The Enemy support the legendary Rolling Stones.

The city band recently shot to number one in the charts with their debut album, We'll Live And Die In These Towns, becoming the first Coventry artists ever to reach the top spot.

Kay, aged 48, of Fir Tree Avenue, Tile Hill, who says she has been a Stones fan "forever," responded to our appeal for readers who had managed to secure tickets for the concert to contact us.

She said: "The Enemy were absolutely brilliant. I had heard about them from my daughter, Katy, but had never seen them in action before.

"They opened the concert and were on stage for about half-an-hour.

"I took lots of pictures of them and the Stones with my digital camera, but I didn't get them together as the two bands were never on stage at the same time.

"The Enemy were excellent and I might go and see them with my daughter when they are performing in Coventry."

Kay, who teaches at Coventry's Parkgate Junior School, went to the concert with her husband, Pete, and friends Roger Bond and Pauline Smith, who live in Tile Hill Lane.

Kay added: "The Stones were superb too. I hadn't seen them live before and wanted to go to the concert as it could be their last tour together.

"Their music is just as great as it ever was and they still move around on stage like they did when they were young."

-----

I did really enjoy The Enemy as well, and took this photo as a souvenir. Great band, just the three of them, guitar, bass and drums, great sound.

To be fair to the Enemy their sound from where I was sitting (north face of the Igor) was abysmal, very muddy and droney, but loud. They did not have the benefit of the large screens so they could hardly be seen either. The songs that I saw them perform seemed to lead from one into the next in a wail of feedback, with no communication with the audience. I presume they got the gig because they are well connected, but a strange choice of support for a Stones audience.
I had to leave half way through, I find this sort of music irritating and the lure of the bar was more attractive

I thought they were good- sounded a bit like The Jam in places and they are a three piece.

I had never heard any of their music before the show.

They didn't impress me (like most opening acts actually).

sorry to the guys in the band, but it's clear they are a cash-in on the wave of Arctic Monkeys mania - an opportunity for the record companies to make a quick buck by sticking a bunch of lanky lads from a tough city together and making them write about their social problems. completely, utterly unoriginal and contrived

I have to be honest and say that I didn't get to see them, as the hotel we stayed in nearby had a 3pm check in time, but our rooms were not actually ready until almost 5pm! After a quick drink in the hoitel bar at 5.15pm, we were told that they did not do food until 6pm, so we had to go to the O2 to eat, by the time we had found a restaraunt that actually had seats, eaten and left, the STONES were almost about to start, so it was a mad rush to get to our seats!

I had hoped to have seen some of the enemy, but got waylaid in the bar as you do. With the mix up with our seats i wished i had gone to seen them and at least i would have sorted my seat out.

Have wrote to ticket master and the 02 for an explanation and to their due ticket master are supposedly looking into the matter, basicaly the 02 do not want to know.

They where really crap, but those Spanish guys where great, didn´t understand a thing, but they created something in the crowd which was kind of similar when Rowen Heze played at landgraaf before the stones in 1999... the whole crowd enjoyed it, even those who didn´t understand that dialect...!

I loved seeing PRIMAL SCREAM at twickenham september 2003 and the DANDY WARHOLS in Orporto last year, apart from the CHARlATANS, i was not really impressed with the other bands at SLANE CASTLE.

as long as we don't have starsailor I'm happy. The Charlatans, Primal Scream, Toots and Van Morrison are Heavyweights and easily the best support acts for our boys. Having said that, I agree with Bjornulf, and furthermore, The Enemy and Jet are MUCH better than say, for instance, the arctic monkeys. Toots In Gothenburg and Copenhagen were F***in Great!!

When the support act is a REALLY GOOD or well known singer/band, it is almsot like a double bill I think!
