..If you go to Amazon.com and then to "sticky fingers"they offer a "related video" with very interesting recent interviews by Don Was ...and Keith in a good mood... .smiling & laughing.......plus rare clips...
Well, just found out it's more than just 2 videos - those interviews are really good. Both Mick and Keith are very focused and I think insightful. Here is a better link: [www.amazon.com]
Last think about this now - both Mick and Keith are asked about their favourite cover version of a Stones song. Keith says it's Otis Reddings version of Satisfaction and Mick says it's Devo's version of Satisfaction. Now, if you watch the video and hear how Devo's version sounds - I no longer wonder why Mick put out that disgraceful Charming Life song...
.........Devo's version.......whatever you think of it...is breathtaking for 2 reasons. They dared to take a huge risk with an iconic song and transform it into a statement/anthem that embodied a musical movement that Devo was in the center of....they made an icon (Satisfaction) iconic again...but in a different way/context...... Very few can lay claim to that.......another example may be Hendrix with Dylan's All Along The Watchtower........... Seminal moments in music......so rag on Jagger for Charmed Life all you want but I wouldn't rag on his intellect. He's a lot smarter than you think.
You know, might be I miss the greatness of Devo's cover because I wasn't even born when they released it. But to my ears it just sounds very bad. Was it a big hit or why do you say they made an "icon iconic again"?. I never questioned Mick's intellect - but he has that undeniable preference for really shitty pop and disco songs that I just never understood.
Just great interviews by both of them! Yeah Lorenz I agree on your point about Devo and Charming Life. There was always a pop side in Mick BUT the brilliant rock n'roll side of him always prevail!!!
........what's interesting about Devo is that they completely "wrecked" or deconstructed the song......doing so re invented it for their own generation. No small accomplishment. When you think of new wave (shitty pop/disco music on a grand scale) their video/cover of Satisfaction is always one of the key examples of the era that sticks out and in retrospect probably sits way above a lot of original music written during that period. I agree with you in the sense that the song to me sounds a little "kinky" when Devo does it....not my favorite version by any strecth....but it is original and very clever.....as far as Mick's intellect, maybe you weren't ragging on his intellect maybe just his taste or choices.......say what you will about the new single...perhaps it's not anything special......but it's one of the top new dance tracks in the market...it's already a big underground hit that's been re mixed and promoted by Junior Vasquez...so he did some homework.....but........,more importantly he is also responsible for writing a fair proportion of some of the greatest songs in pop/rock history with and without Keith............. I'm not so sure Mick is only influenced by shitty pop/disco choices so I'm giving him a pass.

Thanks for the heads up, that was a very nice view. Never get tired of interviews with Mick and Keith. They have so much to tell, yet the interviewers always go for the same boring questions. You`d figure Don Was would be different, but no, he too asks where their name came from and where Jumping Jack Flash came from.
Devo & Otis might just note to much of each other's anti-podes. The funky brass arrangements on Otis were also way ahead of their time. Me, I lurv both: is that allowed?
Damn, that was pretty damn good! What a find indeed! I wish he had asked about other songs than JJF, we all know the story already. But really cool stuff! Thanks for letting us know jp.M!

I'm right there with you. Plus you get a baby sticking a fork in a toaster in the video. What else could you want?
I'm tired, I'm tired of doing what I'm told. Things are moving way too slow.
Thanks very much for telling us - the best half hours entertainment I've had since the O2. Brilliant clips from the past and Mick and Keith both in great form.

I was thinking the same - either bootleg DVDs or a dip in the archives. The best footage there, though - was the Around and Around clip from Münster Where have I seen that one before....hmmm, somebody remember ?
