......I agree.........they can surely handle a smaller, tighter look and pull it off big time in a smaller venue............probably a pipe dream

I wasnt there in 78, but to me it seems like those shows had a few opening numbers, and then the bulk of it, in the middle, a lot of songs with mick on gituar, and then him just singing/running around the last few songs. they could so something like that including "I cant be satisfied" and play arenas and theaters.

the Silvertone 1457 amp-in-case buddy?
Mick talks about it in the clip called Busking on the Biggest Bang dvd - the same clip is also somewhere on rs.com.
meanwhile, there's a bit about it in this thread here: [www.iorr.org] with a link to more details. have fun! :E

Oh, it`s a terrible guitar and Mick`s slide playing is dreadful. The vibrato is horrible. But still a cool performance.

What surprises me most is that it's taken Jagger, in almost fourty (!) years of playing 'occasional guitar' on Stones albums to actually do something more complicated than basic rhythm (or basically copying whatever Keith is playing). I mean, a friend of mine pointed out something like fifteen years ago, "You'd think that after all this time Mick would be a hell of a guitarist by now...like they wouldn't even need Woody, right? But...obviously not!" I tend to agree. I know; he's the lead singer, and that is his forte, but Jagger's guitar playing has always been a bit of a joke to me. "Back Of My Hand" surprised the hell out of me.

Of course, maybe in private he's a guitar virtuoso...I envision a Stones variation on The Beatles' "The End" three way guitar duel and Sir Mick blowing Keith and Ronnie off the stage...you never know. That'd be funny.

Very nice, apart from one thing .......

totally dull, unimaginitive bass-playing. Emphasisizing every beat so uniformly.. and playing that silly frill at the end.

Switch to bass, Mick.

Bass...damn, that's right, isn't it? I dunno...I haven't really paid much attention to the basslines post-Wyman; Bill kicks ass. Woody's bass playing sticks out like a sore thumb (I love it, actually), and so does Keith and Mick Taylor's. I prefer Darryl Jones live, though, but Jagger playing bass, I remember now, reading the BB credits when I got it I was like, "Ooooookay...THAT's a new one...",it didn't strike me as particularly bad I suppose (think John Lennon on "The Long And Winding Road", for example.) But still, I think, "When's he going to play LEAD?".

It was things like that that made me think "ABB" was the total opposite of "BofB": instead of eighteen million extra people playing, sometimes it was literally just Mick, Keith and Charlie. Where the hell was Woody?

I don't know really - but he showed up on the tour.

What this clip - and perhaps others from the DVD - shows is that they can do this blues stuff well (disregarding the bass) - yet didn't have the confidence or belief to transfer it to stage.

I think they were mistaken. Talk about Lost Opportunities.

They (he - Mick) just refuse(s) to take risks.

Oh well, maybe next tour?

Oh, and consider this - they don't need Mick Taylor or Darryl Jones. Mick, Keith and Ronnie could handle guitars and all take turns on bass.

How cool would that be. You'd get Live, if they Wanted It.

Great clip, thanks. Ronnie was quite late out of the starting stalls, wasn't he?

Mick doesn't need to concentrate on improving his guitar playing because it's quite ENOUGH that he works with a voice coach so he can hold up his end of the gigs !( and hold his end up HE DOES!). I think he enjoys dabbling but he knows that the guitar is secondary. It is certainly more than a prop, and as with his piano playing, it is not his responsibility to be a virtuoso on that instrument. Hell, they have 3 other guitar players if you include Blondie, and at this point, you must count Blondie.
