It is remarkable that the Stones, Bowie, Leadbelly (although who's belly actually received the lead is still debatable LOL), Four Tops, Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows ..etc...played until "bone dry" or death. Commitment in music or life is immeasurable and is a model for all!! these folks have worked hard, and sometimes I feel this attribute is underscored. If Led Zepplin can follow suit...this act of inspiration is well appreciated!!!

No quotes from Robert, Jimmy or JPJ? This is total bullshit rumor. Tabloid stuff. The same rumor has been circulating for the last ten years.

Assuming this is true, why just one show?

A greatest hits compilation is supposed to come out, and I'm not saying they need to do a full blown tour, but shouldn't they do more than one show? Why do all the prep and rehearsal for one performance?

I'd like to see them take a clue from Cream and play a couple of three night stands on each side of the pond, or perhaps more.

With respect, no it is not bullshit.

Remember where you heard this first , albeit, without open confirmation of the name of the band (I was sworn to secrecy at the time).

This is definitely happening, the band have been rehearsing for several months now, Jason Bonham is as stated in the media articles, on drums. Other artists tipped for the tribute show bill include Genesis (Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz), but Zeppelin are the headliners.

Actual conversation I had with Yardbirds drummer Jim McCarty, Aug. 23, 2007:

tatters: So what's this crazy rumor I've been hearing?
JM: Which one?
tatters: The one about Jeff and Jimmy touring with you and Chris.
JM: There's no truth to THAT one.

A greatest hits compilation is supposed to come out

It would be hard to limit this to even a two disc collection. Tough job for someone.

You've kind of answered your own question here, Edith.
The buzz this will generate will give a huge boost to sales.
They don't need to play more than one.
An alternative answer is that as a memorial concert (for Ahmet Ertegun), they only need play at one performance.

A most appropriate band to cite; Cream are rumoured to be playing the same venue the following night, for the same reason. Just for the one night.

Just the reports I've seen citing a "one-off show."

Hello Lee! My real name, as well.

So Cream and Zeppelin rumoured for back to back nights? I can only imagine the rush for tickets for these shows!

Assuming this comes about, I wonder if they will offer a ticket package for both shows?

A tribute show? So every band plays Led Zeppelin songs? Somehow I can't picture Genesis playing Zep songs.

Local press are probably just focussing on wherever the show closest to them are. Like you say, you cant imagine them going to all that trouble for one show.

Well, more of a memorial show really...for Ahmet Ertegun, former head of Atlantic records.

Fairly easy...just watch the footage of Phil Collins attempting to stand in for the mighty John Bonham during Live Aid.
Actually, is there any basis for Genesis playing...were they on Atlantic in the US, maybe?

How many of you remember that Phil played drums on Plant's first solo tour (at least in the US)?

If you want a Zeppelin fix, better off revisiting the DVD or even Page/Plant Unledded. The reissued Unledded DVD is excellent.

BTW, I apologize for coming off so harshly earlier. However, the prospect of a Led Zep reunion seems as plausible as Waters & Gilmour reforming Pink Floyd yet again, Live 8 notwithstanding.

According to John Paul Jones' site, JPJ is doing a few selected dates with Robyn Hitchcock, with the last one scheduled for Sept. 14 (in England).

HA HA At first I figured Plant wanted to do a 180 from the Bonham sound, which he achieved by using Phil, but at least use a drummer who can play.

Actually, I kinda liked Collins' contributions to Plant's first solo album (the track "Burning Down One Side" comes to mind).

I wish this were true (well, mostly, because there's always the chance it would suck and be embarassing for the band and their fans) but I have to say I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell it is.

Sweetcharmedlife, it is a tribute show in memory of Ahmet Ertegun, NOT Zeppelin.

To those of you who think this won't be happening, you pessimism is unfounded!

After 22 years of reunion rumours that turned out to be false (starting with the "they're going to go on tour after Live Aid" rumours in 1985) I think my pessimism is very well-founded. If you can call it pessimism - realism may be more like it.

If they do go on tour Plant is going to have some major crow to eat. You could fill an eight hour documentary with all the interviews where he talks about how and why he will never sanction a Zeppelin reunion.

A huge theme on his last album (which was excellent) was that he's not interested in doing oldies, he wants to forge ahead and focus on creating new music. In at least one song he really takes his peers to task for not doing this, of course without naming names. Which in a lot of ways I think is very valid, although like most fans part of me says "integrity, yeah yeah, whatever, bring on the reunion."

The point being, if Plant turns around and tours with Zeppelin he's going to have a lot of 'splainin' to do, and I don't think he wants to take the critical drubbing. I also think he's geuninely just not that interested in a reunion, I mean why the hell else would he keep saying that over and over for all these years?

Of course this is also the man who said (with tongue at least partially in cheek) of his and Page's reasons for leaving JPJ out of the No Quarter TV special/tour in 1994-95: "Because a million dollars split two ways is more than a million dollars split three ways." Maybe old Robert needs a nip and tuck on his lemon squeezer, English rock ball surgery is not cheap you know. Go, Plant's financial problems, go Zeppelin reunion. Woo hoo!

Oh,ok thanks..........And yes I remember Phil Collins playing with them at Live Aid. So will they do a full set,or just a couple of songs?

Man, I hope L-Zep doesn't reunite in any form...
Have you seen those guys lately?
They make Keef look like fitness and health guru Jack Lalanne...

I'd rather not read and hear all the complaints of "how they ain't what they used to be" if they play or tour again.

The O2 show was originally planned to be an hour long acoustic set, but it is thought they will now play electric numbers too and the set run time may be extended.

Incidentally, there are unsubstantiated rumours that the band will play an acoustic set in a London hotel in November, before the O2 show.
