Oh yes, you can tell it is that time of year again! I went into Lydl the other night and they had the ENGLAND t-shirts, fleeces, car air freshners and blow up england chairs on sale!
I was very pleased we won the cup and beat Australia in the last one, as I had broken up with my Australian girlfriend earlier that year!

it's not the "rugby" world cup, it's the "rugby union" world cup.

Agree for some but there are also some great matches in the pool stages England v S Africa/Samoa, Ireland v France or Argentina, Wales v Australia etc.

Not a waste of time if you love rugby and want to see passionate teams play and give 200% against teams with much more quality. Even mismatches are great to see.. Saw argentina against belgium in brussels a few weeks ago.. Great day, great atmosphere and even a pretty cool match.
Hey, tomorrow I'll be at The Stade de France for the opening match. A great moment, but....nothing can beat Keith intro, Charlie first drumming and Mick running up upfront. Those blessed 30 first seconds.
Sadly it cannot be classed as a World Cup because only a couple of teams across the world are in a position to win it.
As a spectator sport I can never understand the philosophy of wanting to boot the ball out of play as often as they do. I was always encouraged to keep the ball in play and treat it as you would a beautiful women.
As a participatory sport it is the most discriminatory of all, in that you have to be at least 15 stone and 6 foot tall to play the game.
Other sports are more inclusive and height and weight are irrelevant.
Just my opinion and I'm sure lots of people will enjoy it which is great.
Stonesrick you clearly have no idea where you're talking about.. I respect your opinion but what you say about weights and stuff is absolutly not true.. Please do some research in the rugby world about forwards and backs.
There are 15 players on the field,
Number 1 2 3 are the front row. Weight 100-125 and 175-185 tall Number 4 5 are the seconds Weight 105-120 and 200-220 tall Number 7 and 6 are the flankers. Mostly between 90 and 105 and 185-200 Number 8 is the same as flanker, only most of the time bigger and taller
These are the forwards.. I agree they are heavy and big.. But the backs don't have to be big and tall..
Just google Peter Stringer, George Gregan, Dwayne Peel, Chris Patterson or even better... watch a match.. Where weight and impact is more important in the forwards, speed and handling are more important in the backs. Wich is also one of the highlights in rugby, the off field battle between the back 'who take mirrors and make up on the field' and the forwards 'who are just plain dumb and only go straight ahead'

alternatively google, Ellery Hanley, Martin Offiah, Alfie Langer, Andrew Johns, or the immense Darren Lockyer, who is the best player in the world at the moment, in either code.
Just got back from Nantes - what a great weekend! Canada gave us a major scare in the first half, but thought we looked pretty good second half. Canada, along with the US, Portugal and Namibia can certainly hold their heads up high after the first round of matches. Can't wait until the Aussie game on Saturday - should be a hell of an atmosphere in the Millennium Stadium!
umm All Blacks!!! of course. And Gazza-you'd better watch the pool matches if you want to see any team within a 10,000km range of you have any success...
I attended England vs South Africa yesterday night at the Stade de France. Weather was cool. A lot of England fans ( I would make a rough evaluation of 50,000 out of 79,700 total attendance ) singing quite well during the first 30 minutes. And as it turned out rapidly that their team was knocked out by a much inspired and faster South-Africa team, they became silent. Sad for my 1h30 companions. Things change within four years. What puzzles me is that no Nothern Hemisphere team is at the level of their counterparts from Southerns'. Miles away.
