I liked licks the best. Simple, understated. big screen.

ABB - a very clear first in my opinion. It was simple yet spectacular en a way I've never seen a stage before.

the best stage was 2003 Circus Krone.....very low and simple. Plus I could walk right up to the front and face Keef nearly eye-to-eye.

what happens to the stages when the tour is over ? I often asked to myself. There are 3 stages made for a tour.
Voodoo lounge was impressive because of the cobra and the biggest screen ever made at the time.

No Security - back to basics - i hate most of the stages they've used over the course of the modern era....distractions with no value-add to the reason i'm there: the music

I have to say that a virtually naked stage on the 1969 tour is high in my memory bank. To see just the band--minus backing musicians and singers -- in an arena or even smaller hall was perfection.

A marvelous unifying experience between the Stones and the audience until the hell of Altamont spoiled the bond on a December day.

if I could expand on this... all the other 89 and on tours stages had either one, some or all of the following elements to it: Dark, futursitic, industrial looking-

except licks. it was the only one not like that.

That's the ultimate way to see Rolling Stones, nothing can compare to such a stage .

Voodoo was the best stage and best opener, in my opinion..."I'm gonna tell you how it's gonna be"

I didn't see the others but the Bigger Bang stage was bombastic!

Voodoo was second best to the 75 lotus.

>> bombastic <<

really? bombastic means "using pretentious language with little meaning" -
seems a curious way to describe the ABB stage, which looked pretty sleek to me,
and didn't talk much when i was there :E

The indoor stage they used in Chicago, Montreal, and New York in the spring on 1998. Beautiful...

Voodoo Lounge was nice from a design standpoint whereas Licks was likable for its simplicity.

Although unrelated to the question, the "Star" stage of the 75 tour is my favorite.

The stage used in B2B was the best IMO.

On the whole, I think that when it's all over people will look back at that tour as some sort of high point (I am hesitant to say zenith because I don't even want to get into any anachronistic comparisons with the 1969, 1972-72, 1978, and 1981 tours), after which came a bit of a decline. This goes, I believe, for the band's energy/showmanship, the quality of the music, and the greatness of the new material presented as well as for the atmosphere and stagecraft. Some concerts I have seen since (in Licks and ABcool smiley have been entirely forgettable. Those I saw in 1998 never will be forgotten.

Completely agreed, B2B was the highlight of the "new" era of Stones tours. Though, relative to the question, the Biggest Bang stadium stage was pretty slick.

Worst... Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle. It just looks...random.

Agree totaally. Its of no relevance other than an excuse for some to justify ticket price hikes.

Couldnt care less what the stage looks like or what the pyrotechnics are like as long as the music is great.

the spectacle should never come anywhere near the substance in terms of importance.
