Any favourite covers of stones songs ? I dont think that they've been well served by covers, they tend to veer towards band boogie versions of the early classics. But the Gratful Dead have done some great ones ( thansks Edmund on trade site) their version of Gimme Shelter is rather good, but I allways had a soft spot for the Dead.

There are two great cover versions of "Gimme Shelter" which I like a lot. One is by the Hellacopters and the other one is Merry Clayton's solo version.

But certainly my favourite Stones cover is "No Expectations" by the Dirtbombs.

Junior Wells version of Satisfaction is outstanding...makes it his own, very different take on it, very VERY blues.

The Grateful Dead never played Gimme Shelter. Although they have played Satisfaction, The Last Time and Jerry Garcia has done Wild Horses, Moonlight Mile and Lets Spend The Night Together.

I think there may be a couple of more, but off the top of my head, I can't remember.

BUT...I can tell you the never played GS....that's to bad, they would've done a great job with it.

They have covered some of the same tunes The Stones have covered...such as Around and Around, Mannish Boy, It's All Over Now, Johnny B Goode, Let it Rock, Not Fade away and Little Red Rooster...which Mick Taylor joined them in 1988 at Madison Sq. Garden.

Supposedly, they sound checked Start Me Up in 1994.
