Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn what a night!!
Before I comment on the gig (more of interest to core Stones fans), a few info. pointers:
1. I was in a floor seat and realised the length of the floor area is actually not that long (the bit between the lower tiered seats at either end.
2. They had Stones tickets on sale at the Box office, but dunno what location in the venue as I was running late to queue and ask, but they were advertising them as 'great production seats."
3. There are NO CLOAKROOM facilities inside the venue (for jackets and bags), so travel light is my recommendation.
4. Unless you wanna brave the Tube, the Clipper service is really convenient and stops at London Bridge and Waterloo on the way back. You can buy tickets on the boat. There are plenty of public transport buses into Central London from London Bridge.
-------------------
The main show at the O2 (where the Stones will play), was incendiary, how could it have got better than that, he even played most of "Pop Life."
The only downside is that his main sets seem to be getting shorter and average around 90 minutes, whereas the first two shows in the 21 series ran at 135mins and 120mins respectively.
BTW, if you have a Floor, front row seat, you get a wrist band with the chance of being invited on the stage. Marva King invited me into the waiting area, at the foot of the steps on to the stage, but unfortunately could not go up, as too many people were already on stage from the other side.
However, nothing could have surpassed my expectations more than Prince and his whole band on stage for 90 minutes at the O2indigo Aftershow. Astonishing, mind-blowing and even better than the main show by some stretch.
Let's put it this way, he started with covers of two Stevie Wonder songs, "Superstition" and "Higher Ground," playing them on keyboard at the front of the stage; man he nailed those songs. He also did "Dorothy Parker," from "Sign of the Times," WOWWWWWW He played keyboard, sang, played guitar and hung out jamming with the band. It was more obvious (if one needed proof), than from the main arena set that the dude was brimming with musical genius. Cora Dunham is one of the hottest, most technically gifted drummers, who can also funk and groove like a demon, I have ever seen.
Going back on the "Clipper" I chatted to a guy who is going to all 21 nights and all the Indigo Aftershows (woooooooooooooooow). He said that out of the 9 Aftershows so far, Prince has played at 5 of them. Other than one night he just played guitar on one song, he was on stage most of the time for the other 4 shows.
"The Twins," soooooo disappointed to hear this (lol), but when they speak apparently they have strong Australian accents that sound like their equivalent of UK, "chavs." I gather their demeanours do not equate with the sophisticated deliciousness of their physical personas. Nothing against Australians or their accents (before anyone says anything!!!), but envisaged them as having sultry, honey-toned cooing voices, LOL.
