I don't think it's a song Jagger would feel comfortable playing especially at this point in his career. The song's trite, the words rather so-so with one particularly distasteful (and now ironic) misogynistic jab. Musically, it's pretty to listen to and Taylor's elegant playing makes it worth it. That's the other problem in playing it now. One of my day-dream fantasies is to have the song played (with Taylor, of course) as an instrumental with Charlie's metronome tapping introducing, then fading out the song.

As for Taylor playing on "Whip" or "Respectable," he could play those songs in his sleep and make them not only smoke but what they aren't...interesting. The guitars on "Travellin' Man" aren't enough for you?

It all makes sense now - with Keith playing the same lead/solo line over and over again and loads of bum notes and riffs, Mick T would really fit in with the band now. That was horrible. If I was Mick T, I'd be embarrassed that that is on youtube.

Yes, that is a poor performance by Taylor, but all it proves to me is even the great Taylor needs to rehearse. He last played that song to any extent a lifetime ago. Typical of Taylor to give it a half-assed try on stage. I'm sure if he holed up in Toronto for 4 weeks he could brush up that performance.

RW holed up in toronto in 2002 could not even get down CYHMK and Sway was butchered. please dont touch Time Waits and Winter.

Yes taylor's guitar lines are not difficult as some have stated but taylor came up with the melody and haunting asending and desending guitar lines.

Well, with Taylor..no actually. Maybe 10 minutes before the show? For stuff like that he is totally lame. Keith's right about Taylor. He's lazy. The term I used is half-assed.

He's friends with Erwin Nyhoff. Back in '01 they did an in the studio acoustic show that was broadcast on a Dutch radio station. Nyhoff has a nice clear high voice. They covered a bunch of Stones numbers that night with Nyhoff on vocals. They dabbled with SMorph, DF, LIV, IGTBlues and took a couple of extended stabs at TWFNO. In my mind this night's extensive revisiting of Stones songs is more attributable to Nyhoff than Taylor.

In late '06 Nyhoff showed up as a guest vocalist on TWFNO at the two shows where Taylor played it. I have little doubt that those performances were played at the prompting of Nyhoff. To my knowledge Taylor has not touched that song other than with his friend. It does not show up in the regular setlists.

A Taylor fan-guitar-playing friend of mine talked to me about that performance. He says there is a key change in the solo that Taylor forgot about and from there he got lost.

Mick Taylor suffered from comparisons, just as Ronnie does now.

Stanley Booth's True Adventures of... says of the tour "One problem they'd had was choosing songs that Keith and Mick Taylor could play. Hence 'Carol' and 'Little Queenie', Keith's Chuck Berry specialities, and hence the difficulty Jagger had mentioned of getting the old things together. The old things had featured, as Stu said, 'two guitar players that were like someone's right and left hand'".

Sounds like weaving was alive and well before and after MT's reign, but not during it.

love Charlie's drumming on Time Waits - real jazzy and groovy. Nice fills. Sits in the background and you have to listen to the track closely to catch all the subtle stuff he's doing

yes, that's true, nice point. For me, the highlight of the track, rather than taylor's noodlemaking and jagger's lackluster writing.

I think this could be a cool live song with Mick strumming an acoustic and Ronnie doing the solos. It's not an especially complicated song and I think the sentiment of the tune hits home as the Stones aren't getting any younger. I though CYHMK had a cool vibe live. Sway was more problematic because of the drama of the original. To me it's not a song where Mick should be strutting the stage dancing and Keith really seemed disinterested from what I've seen. Mick J's driving rhythm pushes the original along and Keith is not even attempting to do that.

Yeah, Sway didn't really get off the ground in 2006. Also they didn't get the right timing and phrasing with this song, something which also spoiled today's versions of Bitch, IMO

ahhh...MT missing a few notes and playing a few bum notes...he is mortal afterall....well at least he doesn't play the solo in the wrong bloody key !!

Am listening to see if there is a key change or modulation in the solo. So far I haven't heard one. There isn't one in the first run - it goes back to the verse.

And the ending is the same - there is no modulation. So he just forgot how to play the solo.
