Well I think most of the jokes in this thread are hilarious. Of course the author of the thread gave the perfect "setup" for a good joke so I guess he deserves credit too.

I don't think it's all that funny either. I don't know if IORR "ain't what it used to be". I haven't been a member for very long so I wouldn't know.

Somebody will probably insult me for saying so, but IN MY OPINION, this thread has gone on way too long and isn't that funny anywayz. Are we that bored? A typo kicked off three pages worth of this. But people seem to enjoy it so good for them.

Did anyone mention that the 1792 was even better than the 1699 tour.

Maybe I have a warped British humor but I have been laughing for 15 minutes. One little typo and off we go..... hysterical.

If I'm not mistaken... their very first tour of duty was 1649.
Slightly before my time. I would have loved to hear them play "The First Time" live.

I have to live up to me name as well: i had heard that contemporaries of the stones, a small group known as the 'oo, caused disturbances in the new colonies when they toured and adorned themselves and their equipment with the (at the time) dreaded union jack.

1649 - that was the year of their ill-fated first residency at the Eel Pye Taverne. After their third gig, they were arrested by the new Puritan establishment and charged with "Vile Immoralitie, Sundrie Other Lewdnesses and Invokynge Ye Name Of Lucifer". Mick and Keith narrowly escaped being burned at the stake and the whole band had to lie low until the Restoration of the Monarchy. Even then, they were briefly under suspicion because of the unfortunate timing of their new song "Playing With Fire" just before the Great Fire of London.

The Eel Pye Taverne was closed down for many years, but the band of course resumed their residency in 1963.

Yeah.. Keith was sportin` a beard back then..
