Well Mick really dodged a bullet that night because the girl calling him out as the devil before they launched into Sympathy, had the townspeople in a tizzy and were planning to burn him at the stake.

Fortunately Andrew had prepared a stagecoach that whisked the band away when they exited from behind the stage before the encore.

Unfortunately Keith's personal powder horn got mixed up with the ones for Security's muskets, with interesting consequences. I think that's where the expression "blowing your mind" originated.

Enroute to 2791 tour ...

Hey Guys and Gals,

I don't think we're giving enough respect to that fantastic 1792 tour. I know they were youngsters, but damn did that rock out. Who would have ever known they would still be going strong 200 plus years later. What an effort....

1972 Madison Square Garden, Stevie Wonder opening act, Stones opened with Keith's Brown Sugar riff. Electric.

And to think that it was only 180 years in-between those two tours.
Felt like an eternity.

I'm sitting at home on a quiet day. It's days like these that really make me nostalgic for times past, former experiences and just plain good times.
One of the most memorable and pleasurable of those was the 1792 tour of the Rolling Stones. I was present at three of those shows. I had recently invented the shoelace so I was sitting comfortably financially. As expected there were other well-to-do's also attending and I got to know them all.
I'll never forget it - chatting backstage with Napoleon, sipping a brew with George Washington, talking horses with Catherine the Great - Oh, what times were those.
The Stones really delivered the goods on that 1792 tour. They were young and energetic and really rocked the joint.
I had to revive this thread - who else was there and would like to share?

the band was actually banned from US due to continuing tensions from the uprising of 1776. things moved slower back then. it would all culminate in 1812 when keith & bobby keyes managed to set fire to the white house.

Do you think there is any chance that the 1792 American tour may one day get released as part of the vaults series.

I heard that after the events of 89 in France, Mick locked himself in La Fourchette and wrote "Guillotine Blues" but the band dropped it from the setlist thinking that would be a bad idea to play it during 1792 US tour.

The stones in 1792 were really rocking, it was the days they took to the road and done drugs and alcohol. it was some time before prohibition. which really was the start of the bands downfall.

Wasn't it around the same time Napoleon Russell toured Europe with Mad Horses and Frenchmen?

I hate I missed this tour but this is before I invented the shoelace - therefore funds were minimal. What a shame! Here's the quote from Native Quarterly.

"Recently discovered North American petroglyphs were found to have carvings of an upstart band (translations of the native language showed their name to be Rolling Stones) on an early tour, roughly dated early 1100's. One engraving revealed squaws rushing the performance teepee to get closer to their idols. Some speculate this is the same band that performed on the legendary 1792 tour just 700 years later."

One of the 1792 highlights for me was at the end of Gunface when the band suddenly marched through the D.C. Congress Hall in military style proudly sounding off a musket, fife and drum in honour of George Washington who had just won a second term in office.

It was too damn hard to get good pit tickets back then...

Security was really bad, Horse Angels didn´t know how to handle the crowd.

Sightlines in the Pit were brutal. Could hardly see Charlie from the front.

"When the Guillotine Comes Down" was a great opener.
