STP was a big deal. I got a postcard somewhere saying I didn't win tickets. Wish I had.. Somewhere I have a cassette copy which is rumored to be a best of 72/73 tour of Australia compiled for the band and lifted from Keith. When I find it I'll offer it to someone here to clean up if it's truly unusual. It's a full 90 minutes and a board tape, it was my go to for years,

72 -- sent in a million postcards, got a winner (for MSG), went to get the tix and was handed an envelope with 4 floor seats for 7/26 ($6.50 each). On the day of the show you could not get on the MSG block without a ticket (there was real fear of a Hells Angels reprisal for being blamed for Altamont), could only get crap weed in those days so dropped acid for the show, amazing, amazing experience, went home and played Exile for like 5 years nonstop. Still here, 50 shows later.

Did George Washington do the introduction before they came on stage at any of the shows during the 1792 tour? You know like Bill Clinton did at The Beacon as seen on Shine a Light.

In 1792 they didn´t have a B-stage.

But they played a mini set on a boat, crossing the Delaware river. The crowd on the river bank went nuts!

A truly great tour! They also toured France as the monarchy was being toppled. That's when they first wrote and performed Street Fighting Man, which was their opener:

Actually it was during 'Sympathy for the Devil' that the French Revolution broke out. And Mick said "...always something funny happens when we start that number..."

It was a huge tour. I heard that they used more than 20 whales for the lighting.

This has turned in to the best post ever! Maybe the theme of the next tour should be based around the 1792 era, that would just be amazing! just imagine some of their stage outfits.

Slightly OT but what about the 1862-1863 tour anyone remember that? It took much longer to get about in those days so a tour of America would last over a year. The tour was cut short at the end of 62 due to them being unable to get equipment in from England because of the blockade and there was a shortage of mules and horses for transporting all of the equipment at the beginning of the tour. But rumour has it they were liable to pay US taxes due to the length of the tour so they cut the tour short and resumed it in the summer of 65. At the start of 1863 they returned to England and did a short tour of Europe lasting just over a year. In 1871 they were forced to leave England and become tax exiles for the first time. At the final show of the 1871 Farewell England tour they played at the Royal Albert Hall which had just completed construction that month.

the 1792 tour-- i recall many complaints about the set list-- too many warhorses, keith was thought to be finished, the stones hadn't put out any new materail in a century, and were releasing their 10th compilations album...

During the 2nd show on September 20, 1792, Jagger hailed the heroes of Valmy, citizen volunteers who had just helped defeat the invading Prussian army intent on marching to Paris and snuffing out the young revolution. "Something very nice happened today. Does anyone know what happened today? France got free today."

Surviving pamphlets cannot confirm the rumor that the band played an impromptu "Salt of the Earth" in response to the news.
