grumble grumble thereĀ“s lots of people that should have spent their time playing golf instead of listening to music that's for sure...Devos 'Satisfaction' and Stones 'My Girl' is as close to perfect as Lennons 'Stand by me'...

The Rolling Stones' cover of

Harlem Shuffle (original by Bob & Earl).

That little bunch of Stones covers that are always routinely rubbished on here ( My Girl, Under The Boardwalk, Harlem Shuffle) have a few things in common: they're all pretty exact copies of their soul originals and all those originals have a great lead vocal. I enjoy all of them, but maybe because the songs themselves are so good. Certainly the Stones don't do a lot to make the covers their own, rather than just competent imitations, but I can hear how much they like those songs and enjoy doing them.

Would the haters of these covers like to be more specific about why they're no good?
(Replies along the lines of "they just obviously suck and if you can't hear why then I'm not going to tell you..." are not helpful).

Somebody played me the Grateful Dead doing The Young Rascals 'Good Lovin' and I almost blew chunks. Here, judge for yourself:

Sounds fine to me.

..."Love Hurts" by Nazareth.
Asolutely abysmal...

I'll take the version of Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris over that Nazareth dribble anyday. Or even the original recording by the Everly Brothers!
