IORR news Jul 24: Sad days in Poland as the Stones arrives
Poland is in the middle of three days of mourning declared by President Lech Kaczynski in the wake of Sunday's bus crash in the French Alps, where 26 Polish pilgrims were killed and 24 injured, 14 of them seriously. The Stones say they will perform the show as scheduled tomorrow. The Stones will ask the crowd to observe a minute's silence during the show, and they are donating a share of the concert proceeds to the bus crash fund.

Flags are at half mast in Poland. It is a sad day. The city was very quiet last night. Hard to have fun and enjoy a show when the country is mourning, but we will see how this show will develop. There will be a show for sure.

Polish president declare 3 days of national mourning because of the bus accident in France where 27 Polish citizens were killed. Wednesday is included.

Acc. to this: [www.dziennik.pl] Viva Art Music (organizer of the concert) is considering to start the show at 0.05 (Thursday already)

It would be interesting altough Dziennik is not very reliable source. So far all media report only that the Stones after midnight arrived in Warsaw. Here's a clip:

I wonder what will happen with Mayall's show today and Rod Stewart's show tommorow. So far no one reported that they are going to be cancelled. If these shows take place despite mourning we may asume that the Stones will also play according to the plan.

27 dead is really sad, but on the other hand there are thousand killed on the Street each year - even in Poland.

They're moving Rod Stewart gig for another day this week, they're considering moving Stones gig 3 hours forward (till midnight).

I'd like to apoligize to all the foreigners who are dumbstruck with all this craziness in my country. The idea that death of 26 should make negative impact on 45 thousand people or so is very typical in egocentric polish meaning of christian religion.

Sorry about the pilgrims but hey, if someone from their families wanted to attend the concert - well he can stay and mourn. Entire country shouldn't be MADE into grief.

The Rolling Stones decided to make financial donation on special account administer by Carits Poland in order to support the families of the victims.

that would be insane! i can just imagine what the taxis will be charging for fares after the show at 3am!

I just wrote above that concert is on time! (confirmed and official)

Man, Keith looks great! (relatively speaking, of course)

I'm digging the longer hair and the black eye makeup - he kind of looks like a melted version of his '81 self.

The concert will be as scheduled. There will be 1 minute of silence and the band will send money to the victimes. I think this is fair and honest solution.

May be a strange question but I`m serious.. where does that money go?

From what I gather polish Caritas will take care of the money.

Not very much Queenie, I've been to Poland and Taxi fares are among the cheapest in the World :-)
5 or 6 Zloty for a 2 mile ride...that's 1½ Euro or 2 Dollars.

Rolling Stones donating share of Polish concert proceeds to bus crash fund

British rockers The Rolling Stones are going ahead with a concert in Poland despite three days of national mourning for 26 pilgrims killed in a coach accident in France, organisers said Monday

Sad enough all that. But the show goes on as life goes on. Donation is a nice gesture of the boys. Maybe they will perform a special song in this context. Maybe As tears go by? Any idea which song would fit best, in case they intend t do so? Your suggestions ?

WPROST have got a special time scale image double side where they have placed Stones history from 1943 (Mick and Keith "baby" images) up to present time, side by side with Polish and world history. By reading this and giving it a 2nd thought you realize how long and how much the Stones have influenced. And how much the world have changed during that time.
