Well, they didn't seem to care much on my shows. Everyone could bring their small camera in.
I usually put it in my underpants.

Let them find something different - like a bottle of water

Shoes are also good, if your camera is flat.

in brno they did not check at all. just one guy looking in my bag....the water bottle in their did not bother him. but brno probably was quite relaxed, regarding security...

In Belgrade we where among the first people to get in. At first they wanted to take my camera, but when I started talking to a second security lady, pointing out it is very small (it is) and everybody has one, she let me go through. About 10 seconds earlier, Susanne“s camera was taken from her. When she realized everybody else got through, she finally went back there and it turns out hers was the only one actually kept there! - This was really funny, they seemed to have given up after the first 20 people or so! Almost everybody has small camera nowadays, at least on the mobile phone - so at the other shows I have been so far they did not care at all.

In Paris I had a full backpack with me (been on the road for week, no hotel room)
so he didn't want to go through all that stuff - can't blame him, lol.
He just asked if I had alcoholc drinks or weapons in it - of course NOT.

you shouldn't have too much trouble with small "point & shoot" style cameras.
and those are easy enough to hide...if you want. (warning: if you want to
hide it in the crotch of your pants...don't wear boxer shorts)

for the most part...they don't want SLRs or DLRs....bigger "pro-style"
cameras with interchangeable lenses. I guess the idea is....you could get
high quality "professional looking" photos that you might
try to sell for profit.

and...as you know...if there's any profit to be made, it should be made
by the stones. winking smiley

other places to hide a small camera...hat...false bottom purse....or
in your sock if you're wearing long pants.

I used to shoot a lot of concerts back in the 80's for the Shepard Express in Milwaukee. If I didn't get a photo pass I taped the camera body to one calf and the lense on the other. This worked every time for me, but the was before metal detectors.

don`t take a shower for 10 days and then carry the camera at your body

you did? i'm surprised that Shepard Express couldn't
get you a legit pass...did they try? In the '80s...I approached
Shepard Express about shooting for them (primarily to shoot concerts)
but I didn't get a good feeling from them....and they weren't
willing to pay much or anything.

what events/venues/concerts did you shoot?

I usually don't attempt to bring my pro equipment in because
i don't want it taken away ...and i don't want to leave it in my car..
...but i once nonchalantly walked in (w/ticket) to a show at the Eagles CLub
with an SLR & 200mm 2.8 lens (on a strap) slung over my shoulder. No problems.
But I did wait a while before standing on my chair and shooting 3 rolls...so
at least I'd see some of the show.

anybody ever comment....."what muscular legs you have". winking smiley

I find the best way to sneak anythying into a concert is to put it where they wont pat you down, In your crotch.

I used always to put a (not small, 15 year old 8mm video camera into my crotch until this tour when they started wanding people). Now, I just put a still camera into my socks and try to wear baggy pants so it doesn't stick out.

But I have found the security in Europe quite lax compared to the States. Most of the time I was VERY lightly "searched" and often not at all. I put the camera in my back pocket. Security was very lax until Paris when they patted you down all the way to the ankles He may have found my camera if twas in my socks but it was in my back pocket. His hand went over the corner of the camera BUT HE DID NOTHING and I went right in.

Now, I just bought one of these new Sony HD mini-DV cams. I think I am going to try to get it into the O2 the night when I am up in the tier, but right next to the stage. Should be easy to hide from up there. AND, if I can find a plastic, condensible mono-pod (do they make these?), that would greatly steady my shooting. I should at least be able to do as good (bad) a job as the guy who shot Fresno.

How tight is the security at the O2? Any thoughts on my chances of success in pulling this off?

Make sure to read the manual where it says how to turn off the red tally lamp of the mini-DV, b/c thats what gives one away, once you got it inside.

some black sticky tape will also do the job to hide the red recording LED.

In Rome noone had problem with cameras.I worried if I had problem with it but finaly the security guys shoot a photo of us at the end of the concert winking smiley. My advice don't take a camera on the show.Unless you have been or you are going to be in multiple shows.I got some good photos but they don't worth the time I lost trying to take a picture.Live the momenet.

I just don't think cameras are an issue at shows these days. The quality that's now availble in increasinly compact models and the number of increasingly good phone cameras has simply made it impossible to police a ban. So hardly anybody bothers to try ;^)

Private cameras are allowed officially by the Stones and their security. You will have no problems bringing a regular sized private camera into the show. However, if you bring something that looks professional, big lenses or anything bigger than the standard then they will stop you, both at the gates, and if they see you using it. Video camares are NOT allowed.

I have tickets for Slane Castle. Does anyone know if they use metal detectors? I don't want to risk giving up my vacation camera. I know I can be creative hiding it and I suppose if I sound off a metal detector I can say I had a metal plate put in when I was in Viet Nam. Any thoughts?

Normally they just in bags and clap your pockets :-)
It's kind of strange anyway. Cameras are not allowed, but still hundreds of cameras goes beserk, when the show starts ;-)

from mph1960 in an earlier thread.

O2 Security:

- They didn't stop people taking pictures.

- I had a compact camera in back pocket of jeans. They didn't search or frisk people.

- They let you take bottled water into the venue - just took the tops off, so put the top in your pocket before you go through main entrance.

- People rushed to the front when gig started.
Security did a successful job of clearing the aisles.
Tip - if you rush to front, move into one of the rows.
I moved into front row and didn't get moved all night! Although it was obvious there were more people there than should have been (it was 3 deep), security didn't move us along.

anyone ever hears of a camera with a detachable lense so you can, like, put it on your glasses and all you have to do is be looking at the band?

It just films away and you dont have to handle a camera and still enjoy the show.

Could be called a glasses camera or perhaps a security/surveillance or even a sports camera. I understand the quality of the video may not be as good as a traditional video camera.
