which SACD player to buy

Hi there

I have all the Stones SACD's, the who Tommy and a few Elton John ones. I have been waiting to get a player saving the day when i can finally hear them on SACD. I have done some searching on the net for players but wanted any advice from those who have an SACD player and which one they suggest. I would prefer to get a dvd player that plays SACD's instead of just a cd/sacd player.

Any advice from people who have an SACD/DVD player would be appreciated. I will also be getting an amp and speakers and want to spend around 3-4k US in total.

Thanks for any help

Brendon from New Zealand

I have a Sony DVP-NS90V, which is a single disc player. The quality on SACDs is excellent as is the DVD audio and video quality when I watch movies. I don't remember what I paid, but it was relatively cheap, around $300 USD.

Try them with "Real Live Roadrunning/ Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris."

Model numbers differ from country to country but in the USA, the MARANTZ DV 7600 Universal player is a stunning unit for $599....you'll have pay 2-3 times more to hear any audible difference....you will be very happy with this....peter

I believe the Sony Play Station will play SACDs, as well as Blue Ray discs.

There are units that will play SACDs and that are cheaper than the ones named above, but generally they do not play true SACD.

As they are hybrids every player will do so. But to get
the best out of them you'll need a good player AND a good
stereo equipment to hear the difference. If your amp or
your speaker can't resolve the resolution and details
the player alone is nearly worthless.

Yeah you can play SACD on a Play Station III, that's why I my kids persuade me pay some of it as well.

I do think that the quality of your SACD player is importend but more importend is your amplifier and much more importend are your speaker boxes

Try this one:

T+A PULSAR SACD 1250 R - you can believe me, the SACD-Version of Beggers Banquet sounds a bit more magical... ;-).

Here you can have a look: [www.taelektroakustik.de]

In my opinion the best "payable" player on the market!

If you mean that SACD discs will also play as CD discs because they have both an SACD layer and a CD layer, then that is not what I am referring to. When I looked for an SACD player a while ago, I found out that every carousel changer promoted as an SACD player downconverted the SACD layer (though the SACD layer still was a significant improvement over the CD layer on these changers). The single disc SACD players costing hundreds more played "true" SACD quality from the SACD layer. However, because the SACD seemed to be a dying format even back then, I opted for a Sony carousel changer.

Incidentally, not every player will read a hybrid disc. Some old players and computer drives cannot read a hybrid.
