Should we arrange a private IORR gig?
Posted by: Gangster-of-love ()

To be honest it sounds like that I'm a fool, but I've had the following idea:

The boys get for a gig a guaranteed payment of $ 2.500.000
I suppose they'll do a private for about $ 2.000.000 - just the boys, and nothing else.

Next question is how many of us spent money for horrible ticket prices, flights to the venues and hotel stays?! During a tour we'll the hardcore ones of us spend thousands and thousands of US $$ just to see our heroes.

So why do we spend not the money for one private gig? A location like the Olympia in Paris or the Beacon in N.Y. with a max. attendance of 2000 visitors.

Ticket price something around $ 1000. Too expensive? I don't think so, if we add all our costs during a world tour. And a fan club concert will be a once in a lifetime moment for all of us.

Serious comments welcome....

The best would be if someone here turns out to be a millionaire...
And preferably someone who really likes me grinning smiley
But seriously, I'd pay those 1000 dollars if we can choose the setlist and if it happens in Europe smiling smiley

Lorenz, that's exactly what I mean. Better one lifetime gig, than hundreds of stadium gigs with boaring setlists.
And of course we should have the opportunity to choose our own setlist.

Was thinking of the feasibility of that myself just earlier today.

main problem is that if you pay $1,000 , even if its a theatre show, you're going to expect to be down front,

I dont think too many would pay it if they knew theyd be sitting at the back. Even in a small venue.

2,000 people at $1,000 a ticket = $2 million, That still wouldnt be enough to tempt the Stones for a private gig. You'd probably need to charge about $3,000.

A seat in the front few rows in a stadium would still end up being more intimate for most people, and you could get that for a fraction of that amount off a broker or a travel package.

...sounds like a great idea.....and it just might work.........but you are more likely to have it work if two really rich and generous fans coughed up a million dollars so that the other 1,998 fans only had to pay $500 each......wouldn't that be nice?.....

I'm a firm believer that if you don't ask you don't get, whereby if you do ask ... well who's to say what might happen ? There have been far sillier ideas kicked around I'm sure.

As with anything else, do the groundwork, assemble some facts/figures relating to serious level of interest, and then - choosing words carefully - make a formal approach. You know what can happen ? One of two things principally ... you'll either be given a hearing, or else you'll be told "no way". Either way, it ain't overly painful.

Remember ...

You can make it if you try
You can make it if you try
You can make it if you try
Yeh, yeh you can make it if you try

Sometime you had to fall
Don't you know sometime you want to cry
Don't it make you feel so bad sometime
You wanna lay down and die
Yeh, yeh, you can make it if you try, ummmmmmm

If you're baby treats you wrong
Don't run around being blue
Remember my friend
Everybdody can't win
'Cuz you know sometime, sometime
You got to lose

You can make it if you try
They always told me
I could make it if I tried
I'm going to make it if i try
Yeh, yeh, i'm gonna make it if I try
If you try

I'd be up for it ... lead the way COLUMBUS !!

However...winking smiley
We allways harsh with their shows, their set lists and what ever.... the only way to get what we want is to arrange our own concert.

It really pissed me off that some finacial brokers get their private instead of us...

Maybe they do it for free!!!

Hmmm... interesting. Question is - how to get the gig in a few venues. Has to be both sides of the Atlantic, some will want a 3rd or 4th location too. To be fair to the multitudes, it couldn't just be one show.

Maybe we play some of this their way - propose 4 - 5 concerts over a few months, film them and release as a Fan Club set CD / DVD package and, if we can swallow it - corporate sponsorship... Have to find a way to keep costs reasonable, make it worth their while, and at same time reward the fans. Has to be done as a business case or it's just wet panty fantasy... But would be there!

Well who knows that? Would be great if they do that for free - really.

To go on with this idea...we need a circle of IORR members who want to devellop together that idea.

Regardless of compensation, do you really think they would want to be playing to this kind of audience? I doubt they would want to play a show in front of a few hundred people who spend the whole time counting bum notes, commenting about how fake their hair looks, complaining about Mick's "passionless" voice, intimating that Keith is brain-damaged and definitively over the hill, bitching about the setlist, and looking sad because they can't let go of the fact that this is not AD 1969 anymore. I would suggest they have better things to do with their time.

I doubt that somehow, but the idea in PRINCIPAL of a private or semi-private show for limited numbers of true hardcore fans in a specific venue of THEIR choosing by and large is NOT in itself a dumb idea. Like all ideas - some of which might strike you as totally f***ing insane when first mooted - they can become progressively more sensible and appealing in direct proportion to how they're "sold".

If you wanna believe something's totally off the wall and impossible, then surprise surprise - it's likely to prove exactly that; IMPOSSIBLE. If you believe as I do that few things in this silly ole life actually ARE impossible, albeit that they might be a tad DIFFICULT perhaps, then you don't see any harm whatsoever in "asking". ALL that can happen is you'll be told NO !! Being told NO never killed anyone ... it might have disappointed them, but it never killed 'em !!

F*** it, someone get me their phone number. I'll call the bastards up !! I ain't squeamish !!

A very nice thought!!

If we were to have control over the music played, I think we'd have to develop a rather large potential setlist and let them choose the songs within it.

I wonder if we could get the actual cost before we go much further for the gig for a certain number of people.

Concerning SomeTorontoGirl's thoughts, let's found to planning circles. One for Europe and one for North America. Each circle with a maximum of 10 people.

Borrowing Stones for several nights - and make Fanclub DVD out of it....
as much as I'd love to see an intimate Stones concert - I can't stand the idea of that - it's like having the Rolling Stones in an aquarium.
A bit of the Stones magic is that they are...out there, and not for sale -
of course tonight's event is a kick in the back, on us and them - apart from Mick and Cohl, or whoever

To get back on earth....if there is a really interest to make the efforts for two private gigs, one in europe and one in north america, you can contact me by e-mail. I really want to see how such an idea can grow...
