I still listen to it regularly. For various reasons, it will probably never be officially released, but after 34 years it's still readily available in various incarnations.

As a matter of fact, I have a version of it playing right now, a compilation of my own making, which slightly alters the setlist order.

We all know the history, so this is to establish once and for all if this is the be-all and end-all of Stones bootlegs. In other words, if you could have just ONE Stones boot, would this be it?

If nothing else, it offers perhaps the best-single Taylor-era version of "Gimme Shelter" (Wembley) ever recorded. It still sends shivers down my spine each and every time I hear it.

Honestly, I don't know if I could choose between this one and the "Handsome Girls" set.

I would say that the Brussels Affair material (there are so many versions) is the ultimate Rolling Stones bootleg recording(s) out there.

Handsome Girls is also great and very essential, and I'd count Welcome to New York, Rocks Off, Ft. Worth Express, Philadelphia Special, Live'r Than You'll Ever Be, the Los Angelos 7/13/75 recording, Passaic 6/14/78, Hampton 12/18/81, Atlantic City 12/19/89 and maybe Naples 7/17/82 (and more...) as essential recordings, but I think the Brussels Affair recordings top them all.......

If I had to choose just one Stones' bootleg from my collection to keep for some reason, it would definately be my Brussels '73!!!! That was the first boot I ever listened to and it changed my life. I'm now a bonafide Stones boot addict. I just can't get enough of The Boys performing live, and the Stones absolutely rocked during their '73 tour and Brussels really captures the passion of that era.
The Handsome Girls CDs are in my top 5 list of fav Stones boots, btw. Dig it.

so many good ones out there; hard to tell...first boot i ever had or heard of was 'liver than you'll ever be' '69, and that sure got a lot of play for many years...even recently...i would say imo, adtl from brussels certainly the best version of that i've ever heard on a boot...maybe happy too...others...hard to tell...but really an eye opener...brown sugar from that one too...gawd, it was a hell of a show...maybe so...maybe if you had only one...but i've sure heard some fierce stuff from other shows and tours too on various boots...and i've only got a handful...but a dreamy essential one in my own day to day life, including handsome girls and stuff from '78...yeh brussels...whoa...almost end of the line for that personnel...interesting tour leg; nicky and stu to billy preston, taylor's very last few shows...folks tell me that some shows on that euro leg found the band 'tired' and wasn't all that good BUT brussels really stuck out...it sure changed my life and i saw the '72 tour in different us cities, including nyc, which was amazing beyond my powers of description; always trying to tell peeps about it the feeling in the room...but it's hard...l&g comes close but not as raw as they really were to me live...only got the gift of brussels several months ago...knocked me totally out...brussels is historic...
i love the boot of them rehearsing what was to become 'td'...the raw band working out there kills me...but yeh, maybe brussels...

wow haha.......I do think that the Stones sounded tired sometimes on the '73 European tour but when they were really ON (and they were definately on in Brussels) then they were at their absolute peak.

Yes, it is reported in many books but the material never surfaced so it cannot be available on a DVD. In fact, nobody knows if the tape still exists. Somewhere I read the amusing possibility that some BBC guy could have erased it when he needed the tape for a Teletubby episode.

Fro me, the Brussels/London recordings are THE essential Rolling Stones live recordings ever. I have been listening to them for 30 years now (in 1977 I bought NASTY MUSIC) and every time I listen it's still amazing. The sound is absolutely fantastic.

I would not want to miss other recordings but if it came down to one bootleg I would be allowed to keep it would be this one.

the way the band 'gels' is just incomprehensible to me. they are just so unbelievably overpowering. wearing headphones and listening to it is just mindblowing. the drumming - man - Charlie sounds like if he plays any faster the sticks are gonna fly out his hands. Keith's savage rhythm on SFM - im surprised he didnt lose his plectrums! MT is just elevating his position as a rock guitar GOD. man he sets the house alight... its unbelievable how fluent, melodic and talented he was. they were the line up of the Gods..it was my first bootleg.. it is my favourite incarnation of the band by a country mile

...if only the kids could hear this instead of flashpoint.... :-(

So there is a possibility that those filmakers have more and perhaps sound ??

The use of videotape in 1973 was generally only used in television studios, using it in the field would have been highly unlikely back in those days, the equipment would have been large, heavy and cumbersome, if field equipment to do a concert even existed at all. Remember, videotape back then required a huge VCR, weighing 50 pounds or more, and the tape itself would not have been with the camera, it would have been in that stationary VCR, the camera attached to the VCR with a thick, heavy pin cable. Even the videotape back then would have likely been 2 inches wide in format, on open reel, rather than a cassette (which I question whether cassettes even existed then, either)

If Brussels 1973 was shot, it was almost certainly shot on film, which obviously would not be subject to erasure by the BBC or anyone else. I'm kind of dubious that even that was done, since pro-shot cameras generally are pretty noticeable in a concert setting. It's certainly possible that small handheld film cameras could have been used and escaped much notice, but that still seems unlikely to me.

I don't have as much bootlegs as a lot people here, but to me " Brussels 73 " is the Live of The Stones. Keith and MickT combined so well. Even a common song like Dancing with Mister D sounds like a masterpiece.

I love Rotterdam 73 also very much...but its ar ....find it wonderfull and funny that the best ever bootleg was recorded in Belgium!!
