I'm in New Orleans, Juf. Any chance of the birthplace of Jazz being on Charlie's list?
It seems to me that Charlie said that after this tour he was not interested in doing any more long world tours. That seems to leave the door open for doing his own jazz things and some smaller Stones tours.
Since they're doing A Bigger Bang now, maybe the next one will be called A Smaller Whimper....

i heard that too!!! if they grab taylor, he's a childhood friend of ronnies...so he'll call ron, and keith will come along...then all they'd need is a singer...hmmmmmm....
this could be bernards big chance...heh heh

Charlie is an interesting person and bears psychanalysis of his character. I cannot do that, but I can make a few remarks.
He is always bitching and moaning about how he hates the road and at the end of each tour, says it will be the last one. Or in the case of the current tour, supposedly they only way he agreed to go was if they 'promised no more world tours." Really? OK, grant him that he gets a little tired at the end of each tour. Who wouldn't, at any age?
Yet, it is said that when Mick and Keith call, he feels this terrible sense of responsibility (can't let them down) and always responds to their call. He undoubtedly has tremendous loyalty to the band, but really, if he absolutely did not want to tour any more, don't you think he would quit? Wyman did. I doubt that he is exactly dragged kicking and screaming into the next tour.
I have noticed that on this tour, I have never seen him take such an animated, expanded role at the end of each show, to wit. After all the bows, he is all over the stage with a child-like grin and giving big waves to all sections of the audience. He never heretofore gave such a "performance" with such enthusiasm. I doubt they ever asked him to do this. I would say this might indicate a certain level of enthusiasm for what he is doing.
Though he has this quiet, "normal" image, I think the road is his lifeblood as surely as it is the lifeblood of the rest of the band. Call it a Way of Life. He obviously doesn't need the money any more, even if he isn't Mick.
I mean, think about it, this is his life and has been for years/decades. One does not simply change that overnight. He is as much the penultimate Stone as Keith, when you really think about it.
I could say more and I may think of more and add to this post or this thread, but enough for now.
And yes, in the words of some of us, CHARLIE RULES (who is that Canadian who has that great leather hat personally made that is emblazoned with this, think his name is 19thNervousBreakdown) or more simply put,
C H A R L I E I S G O D ! ! ! ! !
The Plexiglass of Charlie (i know his thoughts since i am the most physically (and spiritually) close to him of any of the band members)

I agree with this. The most telling comment on this issue was made by Shirley a few years ago. She said that he has a huge sense of responsibility to the band and she felt that he wouldnt be the one to end it as he would never want to let down Mick and Keith. His own comment when asked in the early 90s about the prospect of Bill leaving also speaks volumes about how HE sees it. "I think the situation is that he wants to quit...but we won't let him. It's like the Mafia. You cant leave...".
All this "Charlie said he's quitting after this tour" stuff is hearsay. He has not said this in any interview (other than in off the cuff joking remarks like at the press conference in NY). If he were to quit at any time, it would probably be for health or domestic reasons.
everything is right and all is wrong. this is a talk about something nobody knows, maybe charlie doesn´t know either. we all don´t know about his plans, about his health and about what tomorrow will bring

I've noticed that he's a bit more smiley..and willing to speak to the press etc too...
my opinion...after surviving throat cancer & a car crash, he values his life more....doesn't take it for granted.....wants to live every moment etc...
i heard him say (in an interview - might have been on the dvd) that when he was diagnosed with cancer...his first thought was it was a death sentence.
so...as i said....just an opinion...but Charlie may have had a revelation. whereas he had seemed somewhat depressed & negative at times...now he's a bit more spunky.
